If it's off how can he remember loving elena . And it it's on why he saved sybil
Ans how can he still remember elena after what sybil did to his memory of elena

It's off.
He does not remember loving Elena, those flashback memories are his real memories trying to push back up to the surface. He saved Sybil because she replaced Elena in Damons memories with herself which is why he saved her, it was his instinct as Sybil pointed out.
Damons' brain is mush right now so he is confused, but he will sort it all out.

His humanity is still off however he knows the significance of the necklace so maybe it pushed a memory to the surface that Sybil never had the chance to take that memory away from him. I'm thinking since the season is about redemption maybe there will be another character to come into play to make Damon and Stefan trigger them both turn back on their humanity and fight for their humanity and lives as a whole.

It's on a dimmer , like Stefan S 3, but Damon is still there, he's been there fighting all along.

Well he still has that mystery artifact from Matts Dad that he hasn't told Sybil about.
He is playing his cards close to his chest, so that means Damon has a plan as usual. There has to be some reason why we have been given literally zero Damon pov in any of this yet gallons of it from everyone else.

Think the mystery device is either in the Christmas ornament box in Stefans room or the pool table at the Mystic Grill. Damon's hiding capabilities have never been good, moonstone in the soap dish and white oak stake in the kindling pile. He was either hoping Caroline, or Rick will find it, he's so limited to what he can say, or think.

Although, one thing about Damon, he always learns from his mistakes, that could be a whole new thread.
