The siren legends may rise up in different cultures, but the ones from the Greek legends lived on a Mediterranean island just North of the African Continent. People traveled and traded for thousands of years (look up the Piri Reis map).
However, the cultured British accent was not in existence at that time.

Maddywoo, in her rather condescending answer, was correct in pointing out that people from Africa weren't an unusual sight in the Mediterranean. The whole garbled mess that is the writers' interpretation of classical myths is just totally weird (a 'devil' from the sirens mythos called Arcadius? Really? Whatever happened to Hades/Pluto?), so I guess a few odd accents can't make it any worse! Besides, according to American TV writers, the devil always speaks with an English accent!
