Can anyone explain this to me please?

Season 6 episode 22

When Damon saves Bonnie, we all thought that it was because Elena told him to..,but when did she have the time to?She went into coma without knowing what Kai did and when in season 7 Bonnie and Damon talked about it, he states that no matter how much he misses Elena, losing Bonnie, his best friend, would make him lose his mind.It seems to me that he chose Bonnie because she was more important to him than Elena.

And when he burns Elena's body,Elena who's still alive but asleep, he's burning her alive? I don't get this.

It's very clear in the episode that Elena didn't ask Damon to save Bonnie. He did that of his own free will. He had a choice between Elena being asleep for the length of Bonnie's natural life --- or Bonnie's life being cut short so Elena can wake up sooner. He is an immortal vampire who can theoretically live forever. He didn't *choose* Bonnie because she was *more* important. He chose her because this way he gets to save the lives of both women, and have both of them in his life.

In season 7, he ultimately chooses Elena by deciding to dessicate himself and remain in stasis until Bonnie dies.

He *thought* he burnt Elena's body because of a Phoenix-stone delusion that made him think he was burning something else. There was no body in the coffin.
