Okay, 3x09, thank you! Well, from what I have seen through until then, I just can't see Elena loving Damon over Stefan. I don't see how that comes about, unless one or both characters do a complete turn-around. They just seem 'right'. I mean, I love Damon, too, but I see Elena with Stefan, not Damon, and I'm not sure what would change my mind. Seems what the show was loosely based on (the title referring to Stefan and Elena both keeping diaries, but things easily change in that matter). They seem like the main couple, as most other couples switch and change.
I get I'm not the target audience, so I might be taking it too seriously, but I don't think I like it. I just don't get the vibe. Granted, I haven't seen anything past mid-season 3, but...I guess I don't get where the characters go off the path (Stefan or Elena).

I think you should continue watching and see how you feel. Your opinions might change a few times over the next few seasons or maybe not. Although, If you're not feeling any DamonxElena vibes and you're halfway through S3 it's likely you never will. I was never a huge StefanxElena fan. Never hated them together by any means. The relationship just didn't hold my interest too much. I actually didn't even finish S1 when it originally aired and only picked the show back up in 2015 bc I wanted to binge watch something over the summer haha. We all have our preferences though which is what makes message boards like these interesting. If you'd like to know something about the show I'd be happy to answer any of your questions :)

Well thanks! I will see it through just because it is a pretty good show, I think I'm too old for it, but the guys are good looking and it's interesting. I won't like DElana but I will suffer through.
