Am I the only one that thinks the show has gone downhill because everythinggggg revolves around Damon every season and trying to make Damon a better person? And the show tries to play it off as Damon being a good guy who does bad things but he is JUST A BAD GUY!!!

shareIt had gone downhill before Elena left IMO. I haven't watched weekly in a couple of seasons now. The last season I really watched was the fourth one which was mixed for me. Season 5 was just boring and the only good thing about season 6 was Kai.

I stopped liking Elena when she started dating Damon because it was completely out of character. She dated the guy who murdered her brother. Sure, Jeremy came back but Damon didn't know that would happen when he killed him. It made me really dislike Elena

shareThe thing is Damon knows he's a bad guy. He tells everyone he is a bad guy. He shows everyone he's a bad guy (half the time). Yet, people try to change him. And yet again, when he does try to change and be better those same people beat him down for it and tell him to just stay bad.
So therefore, Damon isn't annoying. It is fickleness of all the people around him. Damon can't win or lose...he's just there.
BTW I love how Stefan and others tell Damon he doesn't have any friends and is all alone. But then in the show he has Alaric, Sheriff Forbes (R.I.P.), Bonnie, Enzo (yes I know he has his own "be a better person" dilemma too).
Right? haha Damon is the one with all the friends, not Stefan. The only friend Stefan made on the show was Caroline ,who he's now engaged to, so technically now he has no friends. He'll have Elena as a friend when she wakes up I guess.
Honestly they really didn't flesh out Stefan's relationships with anyone. Even when Stefan and Elena were together Damon's relationship with Jeremy was more developed.
I agree! I know a lot of people might not think Damon has friends but he has the most developed relationships with the other characters on the show, like you said.
True, he had Lexi but Klaus seemed like his best friend too at one point lol.
In no way am I saying Damon is a good guy. It's just these are obvious facts surrounding him and the show. But I will admit him and Bonnie would be a cool power couple if that ever happened lol.
Except when Stefan was friends with Alaric first, was good friends with Bonnie in S1, that mostly stopped when he protected Damon from her. He was friends with Matt, is still kind of friends with Matt. Obviously Caroline, and is the only Salvatore TO tolerate, Rebekah and Klaus are friends with him, oh and now Freya as well.
Jeremy(barely) Alaric, Enzo, and Bonnie. Are Damons friends, and last Season, they weren't. Hell, Alarics not his friend.
Stefan and Alaric were never friends. They just worked together for common goals. Same with Matt. S1 was Bonnie's hating vampires season so I really wouldn't call them friends but it could have become one. Except they dropped them like hotcakes. When i say friends I mean they hang out together on their off time. Damon has done this with Elena (his first friend), Alaric, Bonnie, Enzo, Rose and Liz (totally forgot her). Are we really considering Stefan friends with Klaus and Rebekah? and Freya bc of the S7 crossover? He met Freya once and wanted to kill Klaus for multiple seasons. I will give you Rebekah bc they did bond more in S4 after Elena broke up with him.
I'm just saying they really never spent as much time on Stefan's non-romantic relationships as they did with Damon, which is sad. Damon has developed relationships with far more characters.

Stefan doesn't want to kill Klaus anymore, if you were mentioning they're not friends because he did, than the same can be said for Damon and Alaric. Stefan admitted feeling guilty for almost just letting Klaus get his in S4, in the crossover Klaus calls him friend and Stefan smirks back. I can't take that any other way than friendship. You mentioned my reason for Stefan and Rebekah, and Freya might as well be, she still helped him with the herbs for the scar after the crossover after saving her brothers, I doubt they're not.
Stefan and Alaric I can kind of agree I guess cause they weren't "hanging", they're friends now though. Matt and Stefan became friends pretty much after the S1 double date. Stefan calls him his friend in S4, Matt calls him his friend in S7. They don't hang out in screentime but theyre always working together, which is pretty much what Damon and Enzo have been since they're S5 flashbacks and 5x19.
Stefan and Bonnie were definitley friends, the only trouble she had with him in S1 was when Damon attacked her and when he lost control in 1x18. They weren't besties but they had a good relationship, Grams even approved of him. They didn't have any nice moments after until a few in S4.
Stefan was also friends with Liz btw, hell they implied if Caroline wasn't visting NC he would have binged Friends with her all day.
Damon and Bonnie mostly terrible development wise because of how little of prison world time they have and how one-sided it's been besides the dead end of S7 and one moment in S6.

Stefan and Elena were actually good friends in S6, to the point were they could joke about brother swapping and calling eachother attractive.

That's pretty much it.
For me a lot of Stefans friendships are circumstantial and not because of "him" or any particular personal bond with that particular person. Damon's friendships were built via a one-one connection with that person.
Stefan's first real friend was Caroline. He made an actual bond with her outside of his relationship with Elena. Bonnie probably liked Stefan more than Damon in S1 but there was a large part of that season when A) She didn't trust him and B) actively went out of her way to avoid him (and Damon), to the point she avoided her BFF Elena.
Obviously Stefan had a close bond with Lexie too.
What I am saying is that Stefan is mostly "friends" with whoever is around at the time but there isn't the same emotional connection with them that Damon built with his friends, because Damon built his friendships independently of anyone else.

They are not friends now because Bonnie realizes that Stefan would sacrifice his happiness for hers, ie,choosing Damon over Enzo.
