They stopped caring about Stelena fans a long time ago, when most of their focus has been on pleasing and catering to the Delena fandom. And they can't control Nina and force her to go back if Nina decides that she doesn't want to comeback. Nina may have said that she would be open to coming back to the time verbally, yet no contract held her down to returning and she may have been in the feeling if just leaving the show to say that she was open to coming back. But, years have past and people do change their minds.
If Nina said anything verbally than she could have changed hers and decide that a return is not what she wants or that it's not what is best for her career. Some fans are pressuring her like she owes it to them to come back.
But, as far as JP and the Network even if they wanted Nina to come back, it's still up to Nina. They can't make Nina come back against her will because some fans will be upset if she doesn't come back.
If they know that BTS Nina already rejected and said No to coming back or that Nina hasn't contacted them at all and told them about coming back, therefore leaving in question if she will come back or not, then they have to stall for the fans with no sure answer.
I see no advantage in keeping it a "secret" if they know 100% for sure that she is coming back. They could be promoting it like crazy if her coming back was guaranteed. There is no real advantage as some of her fans are just getting irritated, impatient, and upset and just want to know right now if she is coming back or not. They want it confirmed now and aren't interested in the show keeping it a so called "secret."

Force her? No.From what we heard she wants to come back to close Elena's story.She said it was up to the producers.They say it's up to her schedule.You see no advantage,I do because not everyone wants a delena endgame.

Yet still no guarantee from her in any recent interviews about coming back. It's up to the producer and the producers for sure want her back, so no need to say that it's up to the producers knowing that they, especially JP wants her back and would have her back in a heart beat. We know already that the producers would have her back.
We know what the producers want, so no need in leaning on that. People already know that they would plan a DE endgame and have known for a while whether they keep it a secret or not at this point. It's no surprise that they have put Elena into a coma for the sake of holding out for a Delena endgame, over anything else.
And everyone not wanting Delena didn't stop them from doing Delena or keeping the focus on DE for all of these years in the story and plot. They know that SE fans aren't happy with Delena and still did it and focus on it anyway. So why would some not being happy with a DE endgame stop them anymore than people not liking DE overall, didn't stop them from going forward with the ship.
We know what the producers want, so it's still up to Nina at this point. No point of keeping it a secret, everyone knows it's a DE endgame that JP would prefer already and have known that since NIna left.
There is no advantage with her fans, as a lot of the reactions are starting to be impatience and irritation towards JP for not being able to tell them for sure and at this point more positive feelings would be created with her fans if they started to promote the build up and the suspense and her fans would be more excited than they are now at them still not knowing about NIna's answer.

They are holding out on her not returning to stall all of the up to the series Finale. They would be promoting her return to their advantage if they knew for sure that she was coming back.
Nina again avoided the right out yes or no when a fan asked her about her return in a video clip. Besides if she knew if advance when they were going to film the final episode, I'm sure that she at this point could work with her agents and the producers to clear out a day or two out of her schedule to do the Finale if she really wanted to. And make time to film ahead of time.
They are that far off from filming the Finale, considering that they have filmed 11 and the season is only 16 episodes.

How would she know in advance when exactly they would film the finale,when they didn't know and the episode was written 4 days ago?And like I said , Nina isn't stupid.She wouldn't break a promise and disappoint her fans if there is any way at all to avoid it.Career wise, closing Elena's story with one last episode wouldn't harm her at all.On the contrary.

If her fans only care about her returning for TVD/Delena, then they really aren't her fans and only like her for what she can do for their hopes of her return and a Delena reunion.
True fans of an actor/actress usually follow and support them beyond one show/movie/acting role or project. I don't know if Nina would want fans who would just drop her over a fictional ship (because if some are upset enough to turn on her for not returning, then a lot of them would be because they didn't get the Delena endgame that they want).
Career wise. TVD is struggling to get over one million viewers. No one really outside of the TVD fandom, some die hard online shippers and CW fans cares about TVD really. So Nina not returning won't kill her career, if she can get some decent projects outside of TVD.
If her fans want to limit and hold back her career because she didn't come back for Delena, then that's on them and that would be sad and Nina seeing and hearing that some would only support her if she returns for one episode of TVD/DE isn't exactly an encouraging reason to want to keep her "promise" to her fans. Like they are blackmailing her into coming back.
"Do this for me or else I won't support or like you anymore" would turn me off more to wanting to do whatever that person wanted me to do. But, that's just me. "

Of course those who won't support her if she doesn't come back aren't real fans.No doubt about that.Most of her fans want her to come back to close Elena's storu regardless of what the closure is.I blame the writers fornot doing so T THE END OF S6 despite a 2 years notice of her not renewing.

I disagree with the idea that they would be promoting her return already, it's way too early for that. Your point is that promoting her return would increase viewers and interest, they arent going to start doing that 2 months out and giving people a chance to lose interest. There is no need to promote it early whatsoever. They can start doing it closer to the finale to generate discussions online and on entertainment shows which will guarantee people are paying attention and are more likely to tune in.
