Ian Somerhalder on Elena's Presence in TVD Final Episodes

“I don’t know exactly what’s happening,” Ian Somerhalder admits to TVLine. “But I do know one thing: Elena never really left. She’s always ever-present, and she plays a great deal into Damon’s morality, his understanding of who he is — especially in these last episodes. Despite everything he’s gotten involved with, he’s still trying to make decisions Elena would approve of, because she is still the light in his life, even cast in the darkness of her absence.”

Somerhalder has no update to share on Dobrev’s tentative return: “How much she’s going to physically play into things, I’m not really sure. I think they’re just finishing writing the finale now.”

This proves what I've been saying. Nina cut her hair before the finale was even written. She won't be in it.

Pointless.

1)She wore extentions before,she will do it again
2)Elena woke up before the finale and there is a time jump in the finale where she's older with a new haircut

See,your argument is pointless.There are so many options.When she waa still on the show full season,they could keep her from cutting her hair.They can't keep her from doing it for one episode but keep dreaming.

He hasn't been this positive and forthcoming about Delena since early S6. Kinda surprised.

I'm not. Most of the actors and show runners give interviews based on what is happening on the show at that time. They are meant to be promoting the current story. Remember back when Stelena was all the rage? every interview from the cast to the show runners was all about SE this, SE epic , SE forever etc, etc. Then switch to DE and the same stuff etc, etc.
Ian is paid to promote the show and these scheduled press interviews are virtually scripted to promote the the current narrative. The conventions are a little different, some real/artistic licence seems to be permitted and/or tolerated and should only be viewed as actor opinion NOT fact for want of a better word.

To me it means she's definitly going to physically play into things,but maybe one or two scenes

Suggesting even though she will continue to influence his life decisions but not necessarily by being there physically?

So pretty much what is happening now?I don't know.I think he should have said"IF she’s going to physically play into things".How much definitly means that she’s going to physically play into things,in my opinion.

I dont think so. I think he is obviously doubtful of her actually being there to play that role while it is clear that he is 100% sure about the positive impact she will continue to have in Damon's life and decisions.

Saying that I cannot say that I am 100% sure about Nina's coming back. Reading in-between interview lines and observations other fans are making I am more inclined towards her not coming back.

Anyway I dont care if she comes back or not and I dont need convincing that she is. I was just giving my two cents on this interview. I am not even Elena's/Nina's fan (not that I hate Nina) yet I feel insulted by the way this whole way of handling if she is coming back or not... both by Julie and Nina.

Why? I get being insulted if she doesn't because I understand that feeling of being led or played, but if she does come back why would you upset at the fact that they didn't want to spoil the surprise. I totally understand why all this ambiguity about Nina's return is happening. It creates discussion, interest, anticipation. If we know for a fact this is going to happen it removes all of that. Keeping us unsure generates exactly what we have now, discussion and interest, speculation.
I have been one of those people that have believed that Nina coming back was DE fans pipe dream. I never believed Nina would come back despite whatever promises she may have made whilst filled with emotion about leaving this show. However, the current narrative in the show and the things I have seen and heard from Nina etc etc lead me to believe that Nina IS going to turn up on TVD. It's just common sense.
