In interviews, they don't seem to like each other, I think mostly Paul doesn't like Ian. I remember Julie saying during an interview with The Originals, when Joseph and Daniel were joking around and someone said that the two of them playing brothers on the screen made them brothers off the screen and Julie said "oh yeah, their dynamic is totally different from how Ian and Paul work together".
Is that a figure of speech? Cus Ian and Paul have never, ever shared loggings, not even early in season 1 when many others did...
Paul still holds it together at cons when it comes to tolerating Ian, but that's ALL he's doing, and it takes every ounce. Those sarcastic Ian/ISF snarks have long-lost their "air quotes".
Hate's a VERY strong word. If you hate someone, you'd actually be happy, or at least indifferent, if they got hit by a bus or mauled by a mountain lion. There's a 99% chance that nothing has ever gone down Btwn Ian and anyone on the cast, to bring about such vicious disdain. In-fact, they've all been together for so long, with such an ideal, involved "house mother/mama bear," and they're all good peoples, so chances are, there's actually a foundation of love Btwn everyone.
But it's just like with siblings: you will always "love" them, but you can still intensely dislike a LOT about your brother, you can still wish he'd stay away on the holidays, still disagree with all his life choices and still think his girlfriends are all trashy hoes. Again, I highly doubt there's anything that severe with Ian and the gang, but he is absolutely the black sheep at this point. Not because he's "different," but because he sticks out as the biggest pain in the ass. And he's the one who the higher up's (along with the cast) get cringy about during press, because he not only can't keep his foot out of his mouth, but he's awfully big for his britches (everyone can thank Caroline Dries' inconvenient crush on him for that...along w/the ruinous show direction). Additionally, he's that squirmy little boy in class who everyone wishes would just take his Adderall and use Chapstick (mixed with Krazy Glue).
Ohhhhh, DUH!! I totally read it like they were Facebook-official LIVing together??
As for where and how that fits into their status as friends, it's like with cons...it's all work and industry related. And even on a personal level, casts like that with SUCH an intensely dedicated and hawk-eyed fandom--which spends thru the nose to get as close as they can--don't want to disappoint or stir drama. And even beyond that, these are ADULTS, who are CONSTANTLY scrutinized by even say, 12 year olds in Iran, and whatever they can do to keep the insanely self-entitled brats at bay, they're gonna do. It's like, "Everything's all good here, Officer, have a nice day!" Know what I mean?
They absolutely cannot STAND him and his thanksgiving belly of an EGO anymore. It spills out across every round table discussion in the same unsightly manor. When he's not hogging the TVD talk, including the rampant undermining of his bosses (i.e., "banning" Nina...not that she WANTS to come back, but G?wonderY...), he's protheletizing for ISF, to the creaking eye rolls of his coststars (and bankrupting allowances across the Tweeniverse).
You know how Paul always "jokes" about hating Ian onstage at cons? He's long since lost the air-quotes to his intonations. As far as anyone on the watch knew, Kat was the last true believer left. Guess someone forgot to tell her that when she dropped his arse like a hot potato on social media last year. She still follows his Human tho, last I heard, anyway. -and that's no hate whatsoever toward Nikki, I'm all for her, and truly do believe that pair to be kismet. But if I NEVER hear another word about Ian's obscenely happy husband title, it will be far too soon.
I'm also pissed as hell at Nina for breaking words left and right like a bull near china (while collecting a cool million more followers near monthly). And that's AFTER Julie and co. offered her the world a hundred times over (including in the yr leading up to her departure, which she collected on, like a kept 10 carat engagement ring, before merrily skipping town). BUT. We've got Ian to thank for letting her know just how unwanted she is on-set by screeching it across the damn planet like a 4AM rooster.
"Wow who cares"??? Um, apparently YOU, seeing as how you're [trolling] their IMDB message boards. And the rest of us care, being that we're here too. So who the hell are You, to mircromanage Us!?
Also, it's you who don't know me, or anyone else here with a potentially highly informed opinion. I'm not about to put my career at risk to show-up some bitter rando, but I can say with absolution that I'm not the only one here who actually DOES know some of these people, and/or the platforms which support them.
Why on earth does it bother you so much that fans and industry professionals enjoy coming on here to discuss such things?
PS Please don't feel compelled to answer that, I Don't Care.
I'm not pissed at Nina. They all had a 6 years contract. She fulfilled and decided not to renew. They want to go on till season 20? She doesn't have to. They had 2 years notice to close Elena's story in season 6.They didn't.Not Nina's fault.
Nina having fulfilled her contract has become the default answer from all of HER most devout fans (as opposed to the most dedicated fans of the SHOW). And that's fine. You're absolutely right about that part, anyway. But I think you missed what I aimed to express: I'm pissed that Nina, wanting to stay popular, relevant and in the good graces of the bosses and castmates she prematurely peaced-out on, PROMISED to return in the final season, to give COMPLETE closure to Elena's story. At the very, very least, that meant starring in the finale. And we don't know yet that she isn't.
If she REALLY wanted to give-back to the fans and support everyone involved with the show, she'd have made herself available for about the last 3 eps. But that *is* a lot, especially if she co-starred (as opposed to cameos), as it's around 2 weeks a pop (plus potential post).
While her current schedule appears too packed for 1-2 months in ATL, there is no arguing that her actual (required) WORK related engagements abosolutely left room for an extended visit to Mystic Falls. Plus, she's been "in-talks" with Julie, Kevin and Mark since last summer....and has known about this being the final and a shortened season since well before then.
Is it possible that Nina will be in the full finale and that they're just keeping it under-wraps for a "great surprise"? Technically, yeah. But two big reasons for this being unlikely stand out: 1. That set, along with TO, has more leaks than a sinking ship. The ENTIRE Sleeping Beauty spell Ep synopsis was posted on freaking Tumblr, by 12 year olds, monthS before the air date. And Julie even knew that, and STILL didn't change a goddamn thing. Other shows, like TWD, handle their "surprises" like matters of National security. And there are ALWAYS dummy, partial and/or alternative scripts for heavies like finales. This is why the CW will remain the "almost network," but I digress. 2. Fans are too upset at this point for a happy surprise to be viable. It's gone on too long. Nina's given ZERO indications of *beep* even after Julie, the studio and castmembers have said how important it is she come back and how badly they want her (aside from Ian, that is). By now, the radio silence is deafening and any chances for a ratings explosion have been killed-off, as the deadened hope's done too much damage. Additionally, there's simply not enough meaningful pressure left to push Nina toward doing what she CLEARLY REALLY does.not.Want.to. If Julie and Co. didn't do it, fans sure as hell a'int gonna make headway. She continues to get loads of new followers on social media (since well before XXX. She never, EVER interacts with any of them, Dobrevic or otherwise. She simply posts all the time, to the delight of every fangirl who wants to be her, as much as they wish to be friends. She's already an incredibly confident woman, but even if the voices of those who are disappointed and/or disgusted were to matter, they're drowned out by her worshippers. And NOW, the last area of concern has been neutralized...Nina no longer has to worry that walking away from her own show (a contract ending means nothing in this industry/type of situation, simply that there's no legal repercussions...) would lead to a blacklisting. Her career has finally taken flight, and she's crafted an excellent reputation for herself.
It's ALL about the goodness of her own heart at this juncture. Not what she HAS to do, not what she technically owes, but what the mass majority of those who made and supported her, desperately wish she would do.
I think you are creating a drama that does not exist. Paul and Ian tweet each other in a friendly banter way (As always). Zach Roerig recently commented that he considers Ian one of his best friends when he was promoting the latest TVD episode. Matt Davis and Ian have always had a good relationship (Even if Matt is a bit of a controversial tweeter) and Ian and Michael Malarkey appear to have a decent relationship to the point that Ian was promoting MM music recently and vice versa with Michael promoting Ian's directors episode.
IS and KG seemed to have cooled their online OTT love and promotion of Bamon together but I have seen nothing or heard nothing that would indicate to me that there is tension between them. TVD family seems just fine BTS to me. I i'm not naiive to the point that they don't get on each others nerves at times, that is par for the course when you work with people as intensely as these guys do, but hate..nope, I don't buy it.

I think they were talking about the fact that Kat stopped following Ian on twitter. She might just think his tweets are annoying though

I definitely think a lot of actors find each other's tweets annoying. Like Ian may have when he unfollowed Nina. Her lifestyle, uber-confidence, vanity and seeming desire to know all of Hollywood, along with the frequency of posts attesting to this, are so incredibly at odds with the persona he projects. That said, these guys are all KEENLY aware of how fans/stans watch their every move, and of what will stir the pot to hell. That said, Ian has proved time and again that he should step back from the keyboard, or at least, shouldn't have fired his social media handlers.
Still doesn't explain why KAT was the one to so publicly unfollow Him, and well before wrap even. She was always the one going on and on about the wonders that are Ian and his world-changing ways. You would have then thought that his posts would be very welcome by her. -she even supported him REPEATEDLY when the Dobrevics went after him re: Nian, and she made it crystal clear she was all about Nikki, when they went for her jugular. She even got involved, telling everyone who spread the lies that Nina and Nikki were never EVER "best friends" and that stans needed to back the hell off and get their own lives.
Definely not "hate." And promoting each other's pet-projects is a good sign of friendship. But the sort of online banter you're talking about Btwn Ian and Paul is expected of costars, it's part of what they're $uppo$ed to do. The real tell is what you see AFTER a show has wrapped.
As for Ian and Kat, something absolutely went down, tho I've personally not a clue as to WHAT. It's a fairly big deal to unfollow your co-star and once "BFF," BEFORE wrap. Kat was still drinking the Ian Kool-aid, last I checked and then she suddenly spit in THE most public way possible? It's puzzling, to say the least.
Ian gets on a LOT of last nerves. He's That Guy, within the TVD fam. Doesn't mean they hate him, doesn't mean they don't love him and doesn't mean they wouldn't take a bullet for the guy. But it also doesn't mean they LIKE him...tho from what you're saying, it sounds like Zach at least, wants it known that he still does. It's interesting tho, since it was Zach who jumped in to Julie's aid and to publicly declare love and respect for Nina, after Ian took a steaming dump on her/the notion of her return, while (typically) bogarting their (very last) cast interview (at Comic Con '16).
Curious what you mean about Matt's tweet-tendencies. I know he's the loose-canon of the cast/playful, if not immature. Is he just goofy on Twitter, or does he get into controversial subject matter and/or drama involving Hollywood?
This is the saddest thing I ever read. I watch the show, and enjoy a nice discussion about the characters and story, but these freaks have binoculars, and bugs, amd read twitter 24/7...and I just hope they find better hobbies. Just... WOW. Wow....
I stopped watching when they killed off Elena & Kai in Season 6. What a mess! But i'm hearing lots of talk about them BOTH coming back to the show! Fingers crossed!!
Well, to be fair, Bonnie was also leaving. I mean, how many main characters have to drop out before a show decides that it's way past its prime anyways? So yeah, maybe the show could have went on with Damon, Stefan, Caroline, and Matt...but the show would have lost a lot of its heart.
Actually I think the cancellation happened at the end of s7 and they got a shorter s8 to wrap up the stories.Ian said that the show was ending then claimed that it wasn't,that he meant that he was leaving.
I think Enzo and Alaric admire the love between him and Nikki which is weird but it seems over the top and fake to me. It makes me think some of them are close to him but I can totally see why they wouldn't.
