It started with the whole doppelgänger thing, Amora, Katerina, Elena but now we have seen Rayna, Sybil and Seline, all resemble Elena and her doppelgängers.
Any theories? I'm at a loss with this one.

Nina's body doubles' contracts haven't run out yet and production still has to contractually pay them a certain dollar amount.

DOn't forget that new doctor chick. I honestly think it is to keep Elena in the show without having her there or using flashbacks. The show straight up doesn't know what to do without her, so they bring in women who look like her so they can keep talking about her. It honestly reminds me of a scenario where a guy and girl break up and he then goes on to date women that look like his ex. So weird.

shareYeah--it's funny, but it's true both ways. They did not utilize her effectively the last season which paved the way for a fun Elena-less season and a new direction. But then they also couldn't function or tell a story without her "presence" driving Damon They absolutely should have killed her off. Delena is apparently more important than plot and entertaining viewers.

Elena is the leading lady.The show was supposed to end after s6.They decided to go and had 2 years notice that Nina wasn't renewing.They had time and should have closed Elena's story in s6 in order to have the characters move onto a different direction in s7.They didn't.Elena and Katherine are my favorite characters.And if the show ends without a proper ending to these character,I will always have the feeling that something is missing.
shareI agree that they should end the show with this character, I've always thought that she, meaning all of them, Amara, Katerina, Elena, and so on have been key to this storyline.
That said, never read the books and have heard that this show follows it very loosely but in a good way, I think it will end well.
