That's my point though, Damon will finally be a hero to himself. And while you dont have to die to be a martyr (though that is the most common definition), Stefan's actions in life constantly prevent him from being one. He always devolves back into ripper in some way. If he dies, that will no longer happen and he actually will be one.

They seem to be hinting at him dying . I typically would never assume this, but the question posed from Sybil to Caroline re: his ripper status and how it puts her kids in danger , led me to believe that no matter what , he always has that in him to be that way . He's a monster now - a 'bad guy' , if you will, murdering innocent ppl and even murdered kids on Christmas! Why paint this picture of him if he isn't going to be 'saved' in some way. I see no happy ending coming for him

I'd be fine with him dying but it seems really unfair when Damon's the one who been a menace this whole season. Why would Stefan be the one who draws the short of the stick and ends up dying when Damon was the one who lured him into this stupid Cade deal and terrorized him and his friends for half the seasons?? It's unbelievably unfair.
I'd want both brothers dead, but Stefan dying while Damon ends up living and, I assume, happily ever after with Elena...wtf.
