Thoughts on final season

I haven't read any other posts on here because I'm one episode behind. But i am curious if anyone has similar feelings on the decision to make the "humanity switch flipped" a part of the final season.

First of all, this is one of my favorite shows ever. I have invested so much time and energy and I am really sad to see it end. I have loved all of it season after season despite some flaws here and there. But I am so disappointed that they are falling back on the same worn out humanity switch story line. The show should just be called "The Humanity Diaries". I just keep feeling like, it's the final season and I want them ALL to be their true self's for once. I know it's only mid season and there is time to flip it back. But that too is so worn out. The whole, "remind them there is something that at their core they are still connected deeply to and that will bring them back" story is also beat to death.

The way the show is going it's going to end up being 6 season good seasons marred by a really redundant final season and that makes me feel like I put in the work to watch this show for 7 years to get nothing out of it in the end.

Thank you. You just described my main problem with the final season! (That, and the sirens of course)

This is the final season. We want to see GOOD stories for our protagonists. Instead, the writers decide to turn them into douches without any real personality. They might as well just have removed the Salvatores for half of the season, and replaced them with a new bad guy with an actual interesting storyline.

Unfortunately, this is a shortened season so they are more than half way thru the final season of 16 episodes. (episode 10 was just broadcast last Friday). So they don't really have a lot of time to work everything out regarding switching everyone back to their original personalities. Got Enzo back to normal just to watch Stefan turn his off and I was rolling my eyes.

On the topic of the 'humanity switch", I have to say that is my least favorite story device this show has come up with and used repeatedly. One season (either season 5 or 6), I posted on here and joked about how many times an episode they would say some version of flipping their humanity switch. It became ridiculous and absurd.

Ok totally missed the memo on the shortened season. So now I feel even more disappointed in everything that is happening. There have been "bad guys" in the past that have been really uninteresting to me, i.e. The Travelers. I feel like the black eyes thing was a straight rip off True Blood. But that's a whole other story. But the sirens and Kade or Cade whatever... I'm not into it. The tuning fork, the bell, the singing, hell.... not how I wanted to spend the final episodes. I don't know what I wanted really but I guess maybe to focus less on a villain this season and more on the main characters relationships with each other. Or since we now know Elena is coming back I wish the "villain" or antagonist of this season would have been something to do with them trying to take her so that we could at least focus on a story that could come full circle. If that makes any sense.
