The Cure...

A cure for vampirism goes back to the old original "Dark Shadows" in which Dr. Hoffman tried to cure Barnabas Collins using a series of injections.

The truth of it all is that there is no cure for vampirism. A vampire is a re-animated corpse that feeds on blood, the life force, to remain "alive".

Yes I accepted the "DS" plot line because well the actors were so darn good. Not the same class here. Come to this of it, "Buffy" once toyed with curing a vampire. Magic I believe. But what happened? The vamp had been a prostitute before "becoming" and once human began dying from an STD they got 500 years ago that had been dormant but still potent!

That this show pulled this out of the writers room seasons ago and now is making it again a key plot point to this season drives me a bit nuts. A cured vampire is a dead person.

I dunno what to think anymore... I am watching because I started with the show in the beginning. But as someone else pointed out, the show peaked around season four or so.

I am a huge Dark Shadows fan myself. I'm on my third run through. Julia's cure for vampirism eventually failed. Barnabas aged rapidly and continued to age. If he had not fed on Carolyn and reversed the process, he would have turned to dust.

Their *is* a working cure for vampires on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but it's very esoteric and arcane... I doubt anyone but Angel himself knows of it. Angel knows because he was the only known vampire ever cured. Then the Oracles reversed time. First, the vampire in question would need their soul returned via the gypsy curse. That curse was written in a dead language. Once the soul is returned, the vampire would then need to be injected with blood from the extremely rare Mohra demon. The Mohra's veins run with "the blood of eternity." As I've said, Angel was the only one who knew this information, and it is very probably lost.

On The Vampire Diaries, the fact The Cure is even still in existence is a major plot hole and a testament to Julie Plec's awful handiwork.

Alaric's daughters had better Syphon The Cure out of Stefan so he can become a vampire again with Caroline, or this will be the biggest cop-out that the writers have ever pulled.

Do you really think they could selectively cyphon Magic like that? Seems most logical that if the girls pull out the Cure, Stefan would simply end up like Katherine post-Silas drain... It would not stand to reason that any magic would remain, let alone that which would revert him back to Vampire. Not to mention, a CURE, by definition, is absolute, as well as the opposite of Vampirism, which has been portrayed as a virus, in much lore...

But then again, who the hell knows with JP and the plot holes that have plagued the show since the Caroline Dries years. I actually believed that Kevin's return would rework the final season into the TVD we all were crazy for, but it sadly really just hasn't. Further, Julie claimed the short season gave them the chance to pack a hundred punches into each ep and make every moment count. Much like most of her promises, that has not REMOTELY been the case. Hell, she couldn't even manage or be bothered to write her tiny remaining ensemble into each episode (HOW are they STILL doing that to Davis???) and then the senseless killing of multiple mains?!?!

We'll see how they turn this around. If they do. Maybe the show will end with both Damon and Stefan being human, then die. Just of course as Elena wakes due to Bonnie getting her powers back or whatever.

So we end where we began, with Elena, Bonnie, Matt, and Caroline (maybe Jeremy).

I remembered an earlier attempt to medically cure vampirism; the 1945 monster fest "House of Dracula". In it Dracula, under the guise of Baron Latos, appears to Dr. Edlemann, reveals who he is, and says he is tired of his wretched eternal life. Edelmann agrees to develop a cure as it would be a remarkable experiment. Along the way Larry Talbot, a werewolf, seeks Edlemann's help, and the Frankenstein Monster is discovered in a cave below the castle!

Of course Drac has no intent on a cure and only wants the doctors hot nurse he met a year before in Vienna! With access to the house, he ultimately poisons the doctor with his blood; making Edlemann a Jekyll\Hyde madman.

Neat old flick if you are into old black and white films (I grew up with them and they are still a fav).

So the idea of a cure goes back to 1945!

For the record, on Angel, they had another cure for vampires. In the first season, there is an episode where Angel covered in some demon's blood and as a result becomes human. It's the episode where Buffy comes to visit - in the end he goes back in time and stops himself from taking it in the first place.

Many shows had similar plots about vampires looking for a cure to become mortal again. My personal favorite version is in Forever Knight.

I already addressed the cure for vampirism on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It's the second post in this thread.
