Quite Original - yet so unbelievably bad storytelling

I never heard of this movie before until being broadcasted for free on TV in 2022.
I was bored, haven't watched anything in a real long time and the short description intrigued me. I was expecting smth totally different of neglected children by overpowering/abusive parents. The asshole dad being the center and him coming to see the light what matters most.
I suffered through 3/4 of the movie where every protagonist simply sucked ass and not sparking any sympathy to side with. However the second of the chalk-board I was SHOCKED! Entire movie had such a bad strange vibe like The Sixth Sense in 2000 but I just couldn't grasp it.... nor did I even expect a twist/huge reveal anymore.

Now a year later it was aired again yesterday and I had to re-watch a 2nd time what I all missed in details. Well nothing. It was even worse suffering throu. I'll never watch a 3rd time.
The Movie Idea is Original - Yes - and I respect that in all ever-common shit. But the characters are SOOOO horrible. Worst that son Taylor dude. His name being mentioned a thousand times as if that good-for-nothing scare-crow was the center of the universe. 🙉
What kind of left-wing pisser plus a narcissist sexual predator! He is way worse than his dad, whose role was 90% to small to grasp his allegedly overblown asshole role!
Why were the mother and her new partner so not relevant in his or the young daughter's life? Both had the best vibe to them and seemed so grounded / in control of life. Even step-dad showed up to the grave on 6th Anniversary Day. Huge plot hole.
Why is a 21 year old not living at home anymore that involved with his 11 year old sister instead his college studies? He didn't even grasp she was the outsider/mobbing victim of the class until the very end! (And he consuming so much of her afternoon play-time truly didn't feed into the right direction!) Total fiction and a even bigger sexual predator dark vibe! Most siblings just 3-4 yrs apart have not much common grounds to enjoy and rather opt for friends, pets or Grand-/Parents.
It was indeed only sad that much-hated-dad didn't show up at the Art Gallery Exhibition. But it was way to less to blame everything on 2 total rotten sons! Esp. since he did show up on several occasions to outweigh that one! Incl. agreeing out of the blue just newly met girlfriend Dinner. And not just another appointment of the day to quickly sit throu, but interested, approving, charming and rather long!
Man, if that is a bad father for just working long earning you a legacy - you'd never wanna have mine!

Most relatable character was the Police Detective Father. While his daughter was not 99% as fukked up as Taylor besides having a way bigger tragedy, she also was not a much likeable person. Spoiled with the most insane career choice. Helping the killers, rapists and other jail scum instead studying Medicine or Law in honour of her mother!
Man he did it all while suffering maybe most... and that is the Thank You! Running off with the 1st good-for-nothing Scare-Crow at College!
What's so bad getting extra money all the time to afford a Taxi? Girl herself should have been most terrified having to take the subway as her dad is just a working class slave and no hedge fond prince! Talking about Trigger Flashbacks! Even Bicycle-Prince didn't use the subway. So the last shot was kinda fitting for a utter crap movie. Uncalled ridiculous.
As shocking as the Date Reveal was, who really cried for asshole Taylor? Some Trash Millennials who worship that actor as a Vampire?! Can't believe the rating is 7! The movie is not enjoyable, despite being Original!

Some ppl only issue with the movie I see here is ranting it should not have been about 9/11 as it upsets ppl who lost a relative in the Tower... but frankly then they can never consume any media ever again. 9 years passed. 9 Anniversary News Coverage. Even new Towers build. A thousand times mentioned before that movie everywhere from Sports to Talk Shows to Comedy Skits. It was OK for an 2010 release and onwards. Also ridiculous if Music/Film would have to wait 50 yrs.
That's not the issue. The issue clearly is the total unlikeableness of Taylor, his sexual predator college friend and a loose Girlfriend they wanted to sexually abuse for 'revenge' on a police officer - who just done his job correct!!! If fukked up retard Taylor wouldn't have laid his hands to beat on a police officer for NOTHING, he wouldn't have sit a few hours in jail. Yeah good to have such a father in back or he wouldn't dare to act like that. Main person Taylor can blame is himself.

Oh and last but not least. First time around I didn't know Meghan Markle 🤢🤮 was in. Second time I was prepared. Still unrecognizable ridiculous. Like really or she bought herself some credits? Nonetheless fits! 🤢 🤮

Rating 2/10 - mainly for the police dad and the chalk board Shocker Twist! Mother and stepdad plus secretary had to small roles to acknowledge... thou they seemed OK as well.

Forgotten Aspect:

After first screening I somewhat could live with the thought that well the unpleasant movie must be based on a true story. At least loosely.
That's why it's got no high polished feel-good characters and well people suck in so many layers as they do in real life. Assholes all around.
Maybe out of all family stories of the 9/11 victims this was the most intriguing background-story for Movie Potential! And it was good that it was not marketed as a 9/11 victim perspective movie as really the only good part was that reveal. Without that surprising twist def. 0/10!

However I specifically googled for it now 2nd time around and shockingly it wasn't even that! Total fiction! My Gosh... 😳 🤯
So it's even more 21st Century Trash MiIllenial Digital Waste! 🤕

Seems to me your character judgement made you prejudiced about the movie. Whether the characters are likable or not should almost never be indicators of the quality of a movie. Also it seems to me that the description you read was probably a bad one, since the parents in this film are not overpowering/abusive.
I think the writing was quite OK. The ending with her traveling by underground train shows that she overcame her fear through the latest tragedy.
Taylor is shown to end up in jail twice and he never actually called his dad to rescue him - it was clearly shown.
How are Taylor and his best friend sexual predators??
You also stated that her father did a good job before Taylor layed his hand on him (in order to continue argument as the police man let everybody go). But he actually didn't because he treated them all the same, when it was clear that the two guys in the street were drunken aggressors who attacked the two guys peacefully walking down the street (or vice versa). Taylor, his mate and the two girls were the witnesses but the police man didn't care.
etc, etc.
You misread a lot of small things, and some big, probably misled by the wrong description.
But I agree with you about the irrelevancy of Taylor's mom and step-dad. And also about Meghan Markel. If I knew she was in the movie, I would've given it less than 6 stars :)
