This films blows my mind...

I was unfortunate enough to see the ending of this film first! But when it came on tv I decided to record it to see what the rest of the film was about. A lot of the film is quite slow, but the beautiful relationship between Tyler and his sister was I think what saved it for me.

Anyway, long story short, it was ace. I am not a person who regularly cries in films, but the ending of this gets me every time. The moment you see Tyler in front of the windows of the WTC the blubbing starts.

I tried to work out why this was....I was 15 in 2001 and remember the events of the day vividly.However being in the UK I wasnt as exposed or affected as I imagine most of the US was. I think though, even if you werent directly affected by september 11th, the world is still going through some sort of mourning. Although it was over 10 years ago, 9/11 definitely changed the way we live today. I have watched with grim fascination the many documentaries about 9/11 but still dont feel any sort of closure which is why I think the film affects me like it does. I'm still as horrified today by what happened as I was 12 years ago, perhaps now even more so as its sunk in and i've grown up.

Sorry for the ramble. I was interested to see other people on the boards have felt the same. Only a very clever film could have done this in such a tasteful way.

I too remember the day vividly, also from the UK. I remember, I was in between trips and/or jobs, and had taken to watching `Diagnosis Murder` on the BBC in the early afternoon. `Neighbours` ended, then there was a news flash. I remembering thinking, `oh, no, the Queen Mum's died`, because she was a little sick at the time.

First image that flashed up on the screen, smoke pouring out of the towers. Rest of the day disappeared after that.

Anyway...

I caught the movie on Film4 as the 9pm film a couple of days ago. I remembered it was some sort of romantic drama, and what swung my decision to watch it was Emilie De Ravin, who I'm currently falling back in love with through `Once Upon A Time` (yes, I like that show, deal with it )

The film makers are sublime about it. Mugging/murder, 1991. Then, simply `Ten Years Later`. So, your front brain says `2001`. Ooh-er. Then you get the class about terrorism etc, maybe something, but it could be set afterwards.

Then, the film makes you completely forget the whole thing. Sucks you in. I didn't even see the Towers in the background like others have stated.

The performances are great (I thought Ruby Jerins as Caroline was standout), there's some funny dialogue, some wonderfully played scenes between the leads, the always dependable Cooper, Olin and Brosnan. Brosnan yelling at his people to `sit the f_uck down` comes right out of nowhere.

And then, just utterly punched in the gut. I forget now what it was from just before the chalk board, but something went `twang` in my head, and my heart dropped into my slippers.

Kudos to all involved. This one's going to stick with me for a while.

Your description of how the timeline played is exactly how I saw it. As soon as it said 10 years later and I realized it was 2001 of course my mind immediately thinks of 9/11, and the talk of terrorism in class, I wondered if this was after and then just like you completely forgot about it. Having never been to New York, there was nothing in the background that gave anything away, when Tyler's standing at the windows I think "his dad's going to be in an accident" and as soon as the shot panned to the date on the chalk board I started bawling. Of course my husband calls RIGHT then from the Middle East and I've got uncontrollable sobs and he's thinking it's a bad connection.
