What a CHEAP ending

The difference being the plots of all those movies were actually about 9/11. This movie had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11 or even the World Trade Center. Its was a simple (shitty) romance and the writer said to himself "what would be a good ending that takes everyone by surprise" and we end up with the main character unexpectedly dying. And to make his death "powerful" they use a real and recent tragedy that as stated, had nothing to do with the film. There were of course people who saw the movie and said after "wow what and ending, i wasn't expecting that". Of course you weren't expecting it, cuz the ending had absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the film. Like if at the end of "The Goonies" they discover Mikey has stage 3 cancer, yeah that would suck but wtf does it have to do with the rest of the movie?
