should not be rated higher than the original

7.6 compared to 7.5

Newer films often cause a stir with movie goers. After time passes and they have time to reflect they cool their praises/criticisms but I doubt many go back and adjust their ratings. Enthusiasm is like that.

reply

Indeed.

I love both of them, but the latter has a grittier feel to it, and a far more believable "Matty." The only truly sour note was what I call "the money line" -- that line we all wait for John Wayne to say in the first version. Wayne nailed it. Bridges didn't.

reply

I think this version is better than the original. The original is an 8/10 and his version is for me a 9/10.

It's a long time since I saw the 1969 film but I prefer Bridges to Wayne any day of the week, and the remake has the excellent Steinfeld and Damon compared to the wooden Darby and Campbell.

Both are enjoyable films but I do think this is a rare case of the remake surpassing the original.

reply

That's only because it's recent, and because of the ideological prejudice against John Wayne. The Bridges version is very good (in spite of his mealy mouthed speech), but the original is superior.

reply

NO IT SHOULDNT...ORIGINAL SHOULD BE AROUND A 8.5 ...THE REMAKE SHOULD BE AROUND AN 8.
