That's no reflection on Jeff Bridges' performance but I think Goodman had it all, the physique, the voice, the accent and the facial expressions, he can be both intimidating and sympathetic, even pathetic or funny in the same time... could've been an interesting performance, maybe one of a lifetime. What do you think?

No way. John Goodman would have ruined this movie. Jeff Bridges was the perfect man for this role. Only other one who might have done a good job is maybe... actually can't think of another as Bridges was perfect.
shareWell, I guess it's one of these cases where the character is so 'connected' to the actor that it's impossible to imagine another one playing him, like imagining someone other than Al Pacino to play Michael Corleone but I thought the question could be asked since Bridges is the second one to play Cogburn, who was already iconic through John Wayne's performance.

shareI would have liked to have seen it. John Goodman is a very underrated actor. But I think Jeff Bridges was pitch-perfect in this part. The only line he blew was the "money" line -- "Fill your hands...." He underplayed it too much. Otherwise, it was flawless.
Still, just to see how he would have approached it, I'd like to have seen Goodman in the part.
