this may not be the best way to teach our young

I have not yet watched very much of this but have watched the sketch informing us about the Charge of the Light Brigade at the battle of Balaclava.

This was slightly amusing as it does satirise our hind sighted view of the event but only if we knew about the story in the first instance.

I feel that young children have little in them to see satire especially if the event involved is not already known about and in some depth.

Most of us today are only aware of the events of that punch up that happened because Tony Richardson made a film using what he thought appropriate to include be it true or not.

Even though I should have more information being related by military service time to the combatant units in that charge this is how even I got a great deal of the available information. I don't suppose the officer descendants are about to inform the new members of their units about the inabilities of their 'ancestors'.

I see much to comment the making of historical information easier to to take in and even enjoy in programs such as these but as said I cannot see how our youth can take in how stupid things were if they do not know what actually was.

What else had been given a light hearted outing at the expense of real knowledge of the events?

I think people are quite willing to find out about new information even if they didn't know about it before - after all you do have to start from somewhere.

My main problem with HH (and this is a problem with the books as well), is that occasionally the researcher(s) seem to have gone on holiday, leaving a cat to continue researching the past, with the result that the information presented isn't "100% accu-rat".

a) this isn't just for kids
b) think of it as a additonal to history lessons. Try sitting down with you kids and watching it with them. if they have questions or are unsure, investigate the answer together!
