Was the main plot affected by the casting change? Would Mikaela have had Carly's job? What was the difference between the 'Mikaela' screenplay and the 'Carly' screenplay?

I think Mikaela is supposed to be more of the action girl and Rosie a bit of a damsel (not that there's anything wrong with that). Of course Mikaela had damsel-y moments too. But I mean, I think Mikaela was the tomboyish Ms. Fanservice character when Sam was more immature, and now that he's grown up a bit he's into the girly, embassy sophisticate.
Mostly though, yeah, there isn't a huge difference.

All that's changed was the character name and few references to the fact that Mikaela dumped Sam. everything Sam went through with Carly was clearly meant for Mikaela originally. The ending with Bumblebee handing them a ring would have meant so much more if it were Mikaela and would have tied up their story perfectly. Too bad Fox couldn't keep her mouth shut.
