Did 'The Avengers' copy this movie?

The last fight seemed very similar in the two movies. The whole opening of a portal, destruction of the city, alien invasion. Even the centipede-like alien ships in the two movies looked very similar.

The Avengers also shares some general similarities with the Transformers movies like
Allspark = Tesseract (incredible source of energy)
Thor (hero) and Loki (villain) - brothers = Optimus and Megatron - brothers

Not a big deal but just was intrigued by the similarities.

Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!

The Avengers had more mature storytelling to back it up and kept itself from distracting the action.

If by more mature you mean a whitewashed, Disneyfied, children's movie with cheap one liners that aren't memorable or funny, than yes it was your right. But if you mean more mature as in for a more mature older audience than I must disagree.

Optimus and Megatron weren't actually "brothers," it was just a figure of speech.

I do get reminded of the other film when I watch one of them ...avengers was memorable though and you could tell what was happening whereas transformers battle seemed all over the place and messy.

Only in regards to the "wow" factor, according to Kevin Feige. But, everything you've covered was already present in Marvel decades prior to the creation of the Transformers brand.

Have you ever heard of the term " tropes".
