Wouldn't it have been cool if the kids were afraid of slasher movie monsters?

You could have had Freddy show up, or Michael, or Jason ... or all of them.

Would be nice, but WB would have to get permission to use the characters since they don't own the movie rights to the characters. Well, I don't think they own the movie rights to any of them. I know the main three have been bouncing between which company owns the movie rights to them.

No, because then it would be a mash-up movie.

Cultural references are always a touchy thing as movies are meant to take place in their own world as much as possible.

Like movies with the president, I think it works better when they don't hire someone to play the current president. A fictional president always works better.

But the book "It" made references to horror icons of the fifties like Boris Karloff's mummy and Michael Landon's werewolf. Why not reference an eighty's horror icon like Freddy?

reply

Yeah I know that but I'd go as far to say that King was wrong in doing that.

In 1988 I was scared of Predator.

King only invented Pennywise and his ability to "awaken" fears as a device to work into one story all the famous monsters like vampires, Frankenstein, werewolves and mummies. So it's weird that original purpose kind of got forgotten now.
