The fact he is notably younger only makes me applaud his performance that much more. Perhaps, even slightly more than Tim Curry's. Don't get me wrong, Tim was as great as anyone could have been as Pennywise -- he's masterful in the part. But Skarsgard's take on the dancing clown is so spectacularly evil, he absolutely makes the role his own. With that in mind, I seriously don't see how his age negatively affects his performance whatsoever; if anything it's the opposite.
So, excluding those that made up their minds that Curry was the superior Pennywise even before they saw - or have yet to see even - this It, understandably there's going to be those that will hold Curry's performance in higher regard for various reasons. Nonetheless, everything about Skarsgard felt spot-on: from his rather different vocal stylings to his manic expressions, he simply made a Pennywise that is too perfect. And despite what's been said, he IS playful, albeit in a more twisted way than previously seen if you ask me.
