One of the greatest things captured on film. Two thumbs up. Your eyes say you can't watch, but your mind wants more.

I almost turned the movie off when the child was first saying "i'm gonna stab dennis" or some sort. I'm glad I finished and I'm glad she cleaned her mess of a self up. I hope she keeps it that way.
shareI did find Kirk and her son to be the most compelling of the lot. She seemed cut from a different cloth somehow from the rest of the clan (excluding Poney, who escaped to Minnesota). She actually appeared to have more developed thoughts and emotions than her family members. The others honestly were interesting to check out, and reminded me embarrassingly of some of my Iowa relatives who are hard partiers, but I did not find myself "rooting" for them.

I don't think Kirk was very special, to be honest. She appears to be different, yes, for a lot of the film, but there was one scene with Mousie where if you blinked, you missed something very important. Mousie said that when she went prison for the second time, Kirk moved in with her husband, and when Mousie got out, she made Kirk move out of her apartment, and Kirk then proceeded to tear up all of Mousie's wedding pictures and trash her apartment. That's a pretty key personality trait of Kirk that she seemed to have left out of her drawn-out "I love to fight" autobiography in the beginning. That had to have strained their relationship somehow. They're obviously over it now, but that was a pretty dumb and immature thing for Kirk to do. She stabbed Dennis for "cummbin in between me an' ma fambly," yet she's the one who destroyed all of her cousin's belongings for no good reason. She was in the wrong, yet because she just "loves to fight," she had to go and cause trouble for no reason. I lost a lot of respect for Kirk there.
shareWell, I did not say she was not a White, after all!
It's true that there is a lot of disturbing things about Kirk ... attempted murder, and apparently covering up her father murdering two people, as well as the incident you mentioned with Mousie ... but I guess the way she acted in the end, after some rehab and making amends with her son, redeemed her somewhat in my opinion.
