Gives drugs a bad name... For the PC people don't take that literally. When we are young and older some people do take things once in a while or drink socially but this is basically having a lifelong party. I've known many "Whites" in my life but I wouldn’t classify these people as hillbillies or rednecks...I'm not really going to say what I think because it’s just too ugly...The only ones I feel for is the kids. You just hope that something happens and they will be able to get out of the cycle.
Yeah, the younger generation of this family really was pretty disgusting. Bertie Mae, Jesco, and Mamie seemed to have that old hillbilly charm with them, but as for the rest of the family, including Bo and Sue Bob, they were just plain old trash.
Yes, disturbing for the younger generation. Doesn't seem like the older ones mean any harm, its just how they we raised and the culture they were raised in. But they all do seem to feel they are condemned to hell, and want to enjoy life as much as possible in the meantime
But they aren't the same at all. Bo used to be (and still is I think) a hardcore pothead. She even looks different from everyone else. She kind of just lives a quiet life with not a lot of partying like Mamie and Jesco. Sue Bob may be from the same generation, but she's actually just 6 years older than Kirk. She didn't grow up with the same experiences that the older kids, Mamie and Jesco, grew up with, so she's not too similar to them at all.
I mean, Mamie and Jesco are the only ones in that family who entertain regularly at bars and shows. They're the only ones mentioned in Hank III's song. So they even if they are from the same generation, they definitely aren't the same at all.
It's like we have the P.F.F. (song by Hank III in the movie) mentality throughout all generations (even Bertie and D.Ray did at least practice the last "F" apparently, since they had so many kids) attitude throughout the generations, but in different contexts.
The Miracle Woman and Her Legendary Husband- Bertie Mae and D. Ray The Good Ole Drinkers/Entertainers - Jesco and Mamie The Pot-smoking Grandma who lets her son stay young/irresponisble and daughter follow in her footsteps - Bo The Wild Snorting Strippers Past Their Prime - Sue Bob and Annie Mae The Disturbed Young Men on Zanex Armed With Guns - Branden and Derek The Crazy Biotches Who Get Violent Over Men and Get Locked Up - Mousie and Kirk
I just watched the movie last night. The sad thing is the children not standing a chance to break the cycle. The Whites are America. They are in every state, every white family has some on their tree. There are so many people living off of disability. Before SSI was tightened up, it was very easy to qualify. I don't get why anybody is surprised/shocked. I loved the music. Ya'll notice there weren't a lot of men in the show? I would guess they're running guns, theiving and cooking meth. and sure as hell weren't gonna talk about it. Other than the children and the theiving which is not acceptable, at least they're not boring. Hide your purse/wallet,medications, take your gun and go have cocktails with some "Whites" near you....you'll have a blast. Have a coworker or neighbor messing with you? A "White" will line them out for the price of a beer!
Yes I did notice men were not highlighted in the movie, although some of the men parts which were filmed wound up being edited out. In general, a lot of the "darker" sides of things did not end up in the finished project. Sort of scary when you consider what did get shown! Apparently Sue Bob and Kirk were quite the prima donnas, doing their best to keep the attention on them, lol! And of course Mamie is a very dominant and hard to ignore woman, as well!
