Did they cripple Miles?

The first victim, Miles, got shot in the knee with a cattle gun. Does that mean he's now crippled on that leg for life? I remember movies saying that if you shoot the knee cap or something you're crippled for life. Miles got shot on the left side of the knee so what does that mean? Getting crippled for life would be consistent with the cosmic retribution thing the outcasts had going on.

Perhaps they did cripple him, or maybe it was just to teach him a lesson you know what i mean. Well never know for sure, even though scientifically (as mentioned by you) if your shot at the knee cap your crippled for life, well in this movie they can have magic spells and we'd all believe it because its a movie.

Not necessarily. I think that a cattle gun would only cause death or permanent injury if it was aimed at the base of the neck or the head or directly at the center of the spine or something. It can't permanently injure people as easily as a real bullet can. It was probably meant as a method of temporary physical and psychological torture. I think of the boys in that crowd Bradley was probably the only one who was permanently injured to the point where we would never be able to function normally. Obviously because they intended to save the very worst for him.

No, I'm an Iraq Veteran and I had Shrapnel tear through both of my knees. After some surgeries my knees are still in very poor condition, but I'm walking. I don't have the bounce in my step I once had, and I deal with constant pain but I'm far from completely crippled. That really would've only crippled him had they done to him what they had done to Bradley. By putting it on his lower spine and severing it from there, or even severing it from the cortex!
