Intelligent? Disappointing!

I watched 7 episodes now and so far i'm not impressed. While i appreciate the old school thriller style and there is some good acting, a lot of things just seem off or unnecessarily dragged out. Dont get me wrong, i dont miss action, but i miss intelligent plot lines.
What with the Maggy's-family side-plot for example? You keep getting hints of a dysfunctional marriage, maybe some domestic violence in the past, but whats the point? To explain her character (which is not that interesting in the first place) a simple one time mentioning of her history would suffice, because its boringly common.
In fact a lot of things feel very familiar. The retired genius who gives some hints? Yawn.
And whats with the "genius" assassination order via crossword puzzle, first in the 80's and now today? I mean the recipients have to check the crosswords in all seven newspapers every day. For years. Doesnt sound like a very clever way to communicate.
And Katherine Rhumor (at least the name is clever)? You have to watch her sitting or walking around for hours and once in a while stumbling upon something (without any consequences).
Despite all that, maybe i will watch the rest, because there is some good acting and an interesting main plot and i still hope there are some interesting things to come. But i feel it could have been much better...

I agree, apart from the bit about good acting.

The Maggie things was to explain why she's involved with Kale more than anything else. The old puzzle solver was only there to help Will in the beginning since the chess game led him there, he was just setting Will on his investigative path and is not around later on. They wouldn't have to check all the crossword puzzles everyday, only on days that those clues showed up in just one of them. Lastly, there is a big consequence for Katherine's digging.

Sure the show is slow, but the end packed a big punch when everything came together.

I recently got into this show and have been watching an episode a day for the past few weeks, I just finished watching the 2nd to last episode and I completely agree, so far, I'll have to see the end still of course. But it all comes together in such a great way. It's unfortunate that AMC had to cancel this show. I only hope they decide to bring it back in the future, or maybe another broadcaster because this is by far one of the best shows I've seen so far that I can enjoy. This show may seem a bit slow at first but most conspiracy thrillers are slow at first because there's usually little information right away and they build up to some larger event(s).
