Too much time spent on Maggie...

Big fan of the show, six episodes in and it's truly fascinating. I can appreciate every character in the show, but I feel that too much time is spent on Maggie's character. In my opinion, she is not nearly as interesting as any of the other characters on the show and is frankly quite generic as a character. I won't give anything away, but there's also her full job description and demeanor that is off putting to me; the way she acts in the office, her living situation, *SPOILERS* her shameless attempts at Will (not much of a spoiler, it starts in the first episode). Anyone else agree? I feel like she could have taken a lesser role in the timeline of events in the series, but then again maybe she'll become crucial later on.

I thought the same at first. Then reading your message made me rethink it.

We saw she had a daughter to protect in life, which raised the stakes for her enough for us to see her doing something she was not comfortable with (her evasive answers to Kale in the hotel room showed how uncomfortable she was doing what she was doing).

Introducing the husband reminded us of how much Maggie fell under the spell of Kale, because was the one person in her life who apparently was willing to take on the husband and do things that protected her from him--like giving her a good job, etc.

That's not to say Kale was not exploiting her weakness in order to get her to comply with snooping on his staff for him, but he did do something positive with this power over her as his "asset" in the office.

So, guess we needed to see that bit about her private life to get another insight into the complex and guarded world of Kale Ingram....?
