Does mumbling equate to acting now?
Sam Worthington ruined any chance I had of getting into this with his incoherent mumbling.

shareI have to agree. Especially in the beginning of the movie. The dialogue was so hard to understand. I alsmot turned the movie off.

That's what subtitles are for...
Born when she kissed me, died when she left me, lived whilst she loved me
I'm pretty sure subtitles are for people who don't speak the language or deaf people. They shouldn't be a requirement if you speak the language. I agree that in the beginning the dialogue was slightly hard to understand.
shareNo, they shouldn't be - but most times, they're there anyway if you need them...
If you can apply them anyway and it improves your experience, then I don't see what it matters. Problem solved, and all that need be done is to press a button (or a few)

You shouldn't have to!
"Fasten your seat belts!
It's going to be a bumpy night!"
What difference does it make? How hard is it to press a button, or to read some text?
People are so stubborn and lazy these days, and it makes me despair. People mumble in real life, and this is supposed to be a reflection of real life. Just be glad that, in this case, you have a solution to the problem, and stop demanding that an actors interpretation of his role be tailored to individual specifications.

i saw it on starz.
how am i supposed to turn on subtitles?
you made a huge assumption, that everyone saw it on disc

what if you saw it in cinema? be a bit stumped then wouldnt you

Cinema sound is usually amplified, and therefore mumbling is much less of a problem...
If it's still an issue, and you really are hard of hearing, then they sometimes have audio descriptive showings, to cater for your needs...
"Your mother puts license plates in your underwear? How do you sit?!"
Hey dummy, the whole reason he was so hard to understand is because he is Australian and cannot pull off an American accent to save his life, clearly. It was incredibly distracting and very mumbly and just silly. I enjoy having subtitles on when I watch stuff, but in this situation that is besides the point. He was so hard to understand because his "Texas accent" was just awful and sounded half Australian/half-some weird texas affectation. I shouldn't have to put on subtitles because I cannot understand someone's english in an english-language film. I don't even dislike Sam Worthington that much but if this many people, including me, noticed how bad and awkward his speaking was then there's some definite truth to it. That b.s. about the film being a reflection of everyday life and how people mumble in life is just absurd, and your condescending replies to everyone here who have very reasonable gripes makes you insufferable. This is probably my fourth or fifth all-time post, so you're just that annoying that I just had to say something. How about I "demand" that Worthington speaks ENGLISH at least well enough so that I can understand...If he was given this part to play a native Texan, then I should expect no less. How is his inability to speak correctly his "interpretation of the role"? That is a cop out and just a ridiculous thing to say, right behind "it makes me despair." If he can't pull off the accent as an Australian person, then he shouldn't be in the role. There have been plenty of actors who haven't gotten their American accent down perfectly, and that is completely fine and only slightly distracting, but once it becomes incoherent and just indecipherable it is most definitely okay to bitch about. Go practice your high and mighty routine somewhere else you profound lil poet.
shareHigh and mighty? I didn't insult anyone, from the getgo…

I do like your reasoning!

its too soon for him to be taking lead roles in movies he not good enough yet you have to work your way up to get that ,very hard to take him seriously ,he ruined this movie could not understand a word he was saying so I've just switched off half way no point , he tried to get a Texan accent so much he was incoherent ,he needs to do more background roles first ,,,
shareI can't understand it just fine. They sound like some of the men I know.
We're gonna need a bigger boat.
