I loved him in Avatar (probably because I loved Avatar) but I think he was right for the role. He was vapid beyond belief in Clash of the Titans. In this, well I didn't care to much for either the film or his acting. But, to be fair, his character wasn't exactly interesting. As for his accent, I don't think it's that important as long as he delivers a solid performance otherwise. But he didn't.

Accents aren't that important. Meryl Streep's accent in Evil Angels was not good and she was nominated for an Academy Award. Sean Connery didn't even try in The Untouchables and he won, playing an Irish-American with a Scottish accent.

Thank God someone else has said it. I am so sick of Sam Worthington and that dumb bewildered look always on his face. Him being drunk and disorderly seem so much more his speed in life.

I'd love to know where you live; clearly a place where regular movie-going is compulsory - and you don't even get to choose which ones you watch. How terrible for you. Still if you didn't have something to moan about...

Dick van dyke in ANYTHING where he had a 'Mockney' accent
Anne Hathaway in One Day .......

Cannot pull off a Texas accent. Are you kidding me??

First of all, as a disclaimer, one can't be any more *from Texas* than me, and I was not bothered at all by Worthington's accent. Most of the time, I found it quite believable, and seemed to be patterned quite a lot around one similar to Matthew McConaughey. There were a few times when a slight hint of Australian accent sneaked in, but nothing distracting.

I rather liked the film, and feel like it got kind of a bum rap because it was shown in such few theaters in such few locations that few people have seen it. I thought the filmmakers did a decent job considering the low budget, etc. But overall, I enjoyed it.

Based on observing this board, why does everyone seem to suddenly hate Sam Worthington? I feel as if actors like Channing Tatum or Gerald Butler deserve far more ridicule.

i only saw the movie in french (i live in France) but i thought Worthington was credible as hothead policeman and he doesn't try to be likeable ( my first impression was that his character was a redneck trigger-happy failed police guy)

His acting and his accent is embarrassing and I'm an Australian. I never thought he could act and when he suddenly made it big, I and many others were stunned. There are much better actors here than him.

As is noted, he was okay in Avatar because its a good film and maybe Cameron drew somewhat of a performance out of him. Aside from that, every film I've ever seen him in has been cardboard.

They are judging an Australian actor because he used an Australian accent when he was supposed to be playing an American character. Same as every other movie he's tried to put on an American accent, he constantly loses it mid-sentence and goes back to an Aussie accent, it is super distracting if you recognise an Australian accent, like any Australian would.

Completely agreed. His accent slips up constantly. Mel Gibson throughout the entire Lethal Weapon series slipped up very rarely and when he did it was obvious to an Australian. Sam Worthington slips up during almost every delivery of a sentence.

I never understood how Sam Worthington was getting all these big time roles in Hollywood and I'm glad to see his career was just a flash in the pan. What's he doing now? Nothing!

I thought his accent was good, only problem is I work in Texas City and nobody has an accent lol I am from Ohio and haven't met one person with an accent in this part of Texas for the 2 years I have lived down here.

Yes I agree that he was mumbling his lines along and it was so frustrating... It's still a mystery to me how he made it big time in Hollywood as he's a short, plain-looking and lousy actor.

Pleased to see the mumbling mentioned. I watched the film on FilmFlex and my tv doesn't do subtitles except for regular tv programming, so I found a lot of the dialogue hard to catch.

I watched this film last night... Oh, boy... Sam W is indeed an uninspired actor (I am trying to be polite). For the first fifteen minutes of the film I could not hear what he was saying; I spent at least half that time messing with my computer, thinking there was something wrong with my volume; but no, it was just him mumbling. And that constant switching to his Australian accent was so annoying. I am not a native English speaker (though I have lived in the US for more then half of my life), and I am particularly sensitive to accents. If Jackman and Kidman can do it, so should he. To me, it just shows him as a lazy and uncarying performer... Is there really such a shortage of actors that this is the best they could have found???
