This was more entertaining than BvS and made more sense, too
I don't understand the rampant disdain for this movie. I had a blast watching it, unlike that dour and messy movie BvS.

shareAnd that's what you call "damning with faint praise".
shareI guess you have a good point.
shareI wouldn't say "I had a blast watching it" is faint praise.
shareWell, I was actually referring to "... more entertaining than BvS and made more sense, too".
That really IS faint praise.
BvS gets a lot of shit, and some of it is well-deserved, but I also think that much like Suicide Squad people are a little harder on it than they should be.
There were definitely some story issues with that film--much of which I understand is fixed with the Ultimate Edition--but my problems laid more in the fact that the film was overly dark (both tonally and visually) and ended up a dull CGI finale with a boring villain.
Still though, I kind of liked it.
More faint praise, that's not enough to keep a billion-dollar movie franchise going.
And I suppose there are things about both "BvsS" and "SS" that I liked, but they're bad films. Not just because they're overly dark, both tonally and visually, but because they're both boring, and worse, incoherent! Really, my biggest criticism of both films is tht they've been edited by chainsaw or a blender, the first time I saw both I was constantly stopping to ask where they were and what was going on.
Well, I like to call things as I see them. It seems these days that most people seem to think every movie is either the best film ever or it sucks.
But I'd like to remind everyone that just because a film isn't a 10 doesn't mean it's a 2. There are many gradations between being "riveted" and "bored." A film might be, for instance, "kind of interesting."
As I said, I thought that both BvS and Suicide Squad had issues, but I think those issues are overstated by many. When they were finished, I was still glad I had watched both films. I'd like to see the Ultimate Edition of BvS before giving it a final rating, but I'm comfortable giving SS a 7/10. Or a 6.5 at a minimum.
Yeah, well, some people actively enjoy being "haters", they like nothing better than getting all worked up and trashing something other people love. Or enjoy, or sort of like.
I'm not one of them, and I'm glad you aren't either. People like that are toxic.
I agree it was much better than BvS. Some of the negativity that BvS earned is probably displaced onto SS. I also think the general dislike of Leto's Joker had a disproportionate negative effect because of how well regarded Ledger's Joker was.
shareI thought Leto's Joker worked for this story. If you're making comparisons, no, Leto's Joker does not compare well with Ledger or Nicholson. But I thought his performance fit the vibe of the film.
shareI avoided this film for a long time both because the trailers didn't look good and also because it seemed that nearly everything anyone said about it was negative.
Finally, tonight, I sat down and gave it a look, and you know what, I actually had fun with it.
The story does get a bit messy at times, and that holds the film back, but I still thought the characters were enjoyable to watch, there was a lot of cool visual stuff going on here, there were a few genuinely touching emotional moments, and the film overall just had a lot of energy.
Most of the feedback I had heard about the film made me think I was about to walk into a 4/10. But having seen it, I'd give it a solid 7/10. Certainly not a masterpiece, but not bad either. A fun enough way to pass the time.
