What if Wonder Woman sucks too?
It's going to be a long year for DC.
shareYeah probably
shareIt doesn't matter what you or anyone else thinks.
It just matters if the DC movies make money.
- BVS did OK at the box office with a small profit.
It looks like Suicide Squad will also do well with theater box office.
Result; there will be more DC films.
As for Wonder Woman? All it has to do is make money.
BB ;-)
it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈
With front loaded box office that's not necessarily true. Investors may start to pull because you can't guarantee the enthusiasm on the previous film
shareIn what ways do dc movies make money? Forget the fact the studio promised investors 1.2 billion dollar gross. Focus on the 870 million dollars it made. Budget with ads was 400 to 450 million dollars. Then there's the fact the studio only gets half of that 870 million. Now for Suicide squad with its break even point of 800 million. No China release and the largest theater chain in Mexico not showing the movie. This movie turning a profit seems very unlikely.

Too simple. It is not easy for fans to figure out box office profit off the top of our heads.
The studio keeps a higher percentage of the box office on opening weekend for instance.
https://www.quora.com/What-percentage-of-total-box-office-revenue-is-made-in-the-opening-weekend
Second, you are using the production budget formula. (2 x the production budget = the break even point.) with the total budget which does not work.
http://io9.com/5747305/how-much-money-does-a-movie-need-to-make-to-be- profitable
* Let's look at the total budget for BVS.
With BVS the total budget would be production budget + marketing which is 250 + 165 = $415 million.
- SNL Kagan has developed formulas for the total budget.
http://www.deadline.com/2013/01/movie-profits-december-snl-kagan/
- The SNL Kagan formula for a flop, lost money, is 1.4 times the total budget (or below that).
$415 million x 1.4 = $581 million
- BVS is far above that number. It is not a flop.
- SNL Kagan has a formula to show when a movie has definitely made money.
It is 1.75 times the total budget.
$415 million x 1.75 = $726.25 million
- BVS is above that number. It has definitely made money.
"Now for Suicide squad with its break even point of 800 million. No China release and the largest theater chain in Mexico not showing the movie. This movie turning a profit seems very unlikely."
You are again just trying to guess.
I don't have total budget figures for Suicide Squad. All I have is the production budget which is; $175 million.
Double that, and we see the box office that Suicide Squad needs to be at to not be a flop which is $350 million.
Suicide Squad should reach that level this next weekend.
(Again, a standard formula. Look at Batman Begins, a success, for an example of how the double production budget formula works.)
At the pace that Suicide Squad is moving it should easily make over $500 million worldwide. It will make a profit.
Result; more DC movies are coming.

Plan?...There ain't no plan!!
That's lovely and all, but I can't be the only fan who's severely disappointed in WB/DC's offerings to date. I plan on seeing Wonder Woman because she was one of my favorite DC characters growing up, but if WW sucks as badly as Suicide Squad (in terms of quality), I won't be giving WB/DC any more of my money. If WW sucks and enough of the audience feels the way I do, then WB/DC's returns will start dropping.
shareStrike 1- Gal Gadot can't act. Not up for debate.
Strike 2- The director's experience with action movies is questionable.
Strike 3- It looks like a Captain America copycat.
It's looking grim.
DC is on the ropes
shareBB15 said it best, it won't even matter how bad Wonder Woman or Justice League are. If people keep going to the movies and WB keeps seeing money fill into their pockets, they'll keep churning out crap until the end of time. But the second one of their DC movies truly tanks/flops and doesn't make a profit, they will undoubtedly slam on the brakes and most likely shelve most of their upcoming DC projects.

Agreed - Gal Gadot is a terrible actress. Plus there are plenty of other problems with her. (Don't get me started on Amber heard casting in Aquaman - JFC )
But here's what going to happening:
- It will be a mediocre movie at best.
- The bar has now been set so low that anything will seem good by comparison.
- It's a year away which let's this situation cool down.
- Wonder Woman has a built in fanbase that has not seen her for decades in a movie and will go no matter what. I'm going to repeat it: No matter what, this movie has a license to print money.
- There's a female lead, so she's golden because: dem t!ts, dat a$$, dem legs, she's hawt, etc....................
- Movie will have many "hawt" chicks in skimpy outfits...fighting no less! Viewers can just sit there and imagine using pillows instead. It will be RIVETING because you know that any moment they will break into hawt lesbian sex. How could it not?
captain america first avenger? lol that movie looks like a cheap looking realitiy tv show world war movie. i mean wonder woman trailer alone set in world war looks much better than the entire first avegner movie. i mean was that really world war setting in cap1, looks lik everything was shot in a cheap studio.
shareI think that's it for this universe if that's the case. We suffer through that, Justice League, and whatever movies are in active production / in the can by that time and then the universe just gets scrapped.
I Don't Hate Suicide Squad

Wonder Woman is the only movie I think really has a shot to be great (general public and critics) because they're the first to get to a female lead super hero movie. With critics I think some may be afraid to review it badly and be targeted by feminists kind of like Ghostbusters (possibly I didn't see the movie)
That first WW trailer looked good, however WB/DC can cut a good trailer but can they cut a good movie? I know I'm gonna dislike SS when I see it as every trailer has gotten worse and worse for it but I'm gonna see it for Harley Quinn, I've said that for like 2 months now. If WW ends up being bad then I'm not gonna bother seeing anything they put out in theaters and just wait for red box. That first JL trailer left me completely underwhelmed outside of AquaMan. So yeah WW is gonna be my last chance with them. I hope it's good like I hope all movies are good. However at this rate I'll stick with DC's animated movies. Those I mostly enjoy.
I don't have high hopes for it. So it will probably be good.
Come at the king, you best not miss.
The 1 trailer for it looked really good. A lot of people have compared it to Cap The First Avenger. While I can see the similarities I hope it's a far more entertaining film because I was quite bored by TFA compared to absolutely loving Winter Soldier and Civil War. So hopefully WW isn't too much like TFA as I'll likely once again be left disappointed. The WW animated movie with Keri Russell and Nathan Fillion was fine. It seems like that's gonna be a lot of this film but with World War 1 mixed in. I assume Ares will be the villain as well which would make sense given he's the God of War and the film is taking place during a war. But yeah all I can go on is the 1 trailer which looked great. However as the trailers seem to go on they get worse and worse to me so time will tell if my excitement for WW has lowered enough for me to just skip it.
shareI don't have high hopes for it. Suicidé squad was great and lots of action
shareIt likely will be bad or at least get bad reviews.
Lose the Game!!!!!!!
I doubt that. It will be about as good as the others, but it has a Strong Feminist Message (tm), therefore it will probably be praised. Especially given the fact that it is the first female lead superhero movie since 'Catwoman', if my memory serves me well.
