James Gunn: I don't really think about Marvel versus DC

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/other/guardians-of-the-galaxy-director-james-gunn-says-he-wants-all-marvel-and-dc-a145270

I just don't find any room in my headspace for thinking my movies are superior or inferior to someone else's, I really just think about how can I make, for instance right now, how can I make Guardians Vol. 2 the greatest spectacle film of all time? That's all I care about so that's what I concentrate on. I don't really think about Marvel versus DC. And also any time a Marvel movie comes out that isn't as good as I wished it was or anytime a DC movie comes out that isn't as I wished it was, I'm disappointed because I love these characters. I grew up reading Marvel and DC comics. I want them all to be good.

Well said Mr Gunn. I agree with you.

I made like a thread a week or two ago asking for people to stop comparing and/or
talking sh*t about either one of them, but sadly trolls don't just go away like that, and will never do.

"SS BEAT GOTG'S A**, IT MADE MORE WITHOUT CHINA, TAKE THAT MARVEL"
"30% on ROTTEN TOMATOES DCEY FANTARDS"
"BVS MADE ALOT OF MONEY WITH SH*T REVIEWS"

JESUS MAN. What happened to loving both of them? Or even dislking one of them, but not talking sh*t? Everything has got to be a competition between those FANTARDS, do people really think MCU and DCEU are in a competition? They're not, trolls.

Dude, Marvel are Marvel and DC are DC, DC becoming successful won't change anything in the MCU, because they've already established themselves.

You're wrong. As Kevin Feige put it, general audiences don't differentiate between Marvel, DC and Fox, so if a bad superhero movie is released it affects the entire genre, and if people get tired of the genre they'll get tired of every single movie, not just the ones made by one studio.

reply

Which is why I made a thread wondering if DC are deliberately trying to kill the genre as a whole, and bring down Marvel with it.

Una!

Pity on such conspiracy theorists like you... Get a life

Marvel hasn't had to do *anything*, Fox has screwed up all on their own.

How does Disney wanting their characters back relate to DC?

Quidquid Latinae dictum sit, altum viditur.

Biased much?

Truth is, no studios would root for their competitors to succeed in the same market.

Uh....yes they do. The film industry is kind of a unique beast. It is very incestuous and there remains a great deal of cross-over in talent between varying studios. The fact is, while Marvel does want its films to be more critically acclaimed and successful, they don't want DC's films to take the beating they have taken. Unrelated films bombing can hurt the industry and films occupying the same Genre bombing can have a ripple effect. So, I imagine that while Marvel Studios wants to remain the gold standard in the field, they are rooting for DC's films to do well and be competent.

I do. lol
Marveltards are THE BEST thing that ever happened to DC. Think about it. :)

James Gunn, you mean the douchebag that called all of us racists because we didn't kiss the MCU's feet at the speculation that Zendaya is the new Mary Jane Watson?
