Whoever had October 8th in the pool, take a bow.

Today's the day Suicide Squad falls behind Guardians of the Galaxy in domestic box office. After starting with a huge huge lead, due to great promotion, big stars, Batman & Joker, and overall high anticipation. A lead that it could not hold. Because it's a piece of crap.

We'll find out just how far behind it fell tomorrow, but it's happening right now.

Honestly if your going to put down fifty smiley faces for a piece of news declaring that after two months a movie is slowing down, honestly I don't think you need anymore.

reply

After two months?

Try ten days.

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/showdowns/chart/?view=daily&id=augustopen.htm

And that's not allowing for ticket price inflation--if you make it about ticket sales, the downslide started much sooner.

Front loaded movie, based on hype and brand name recognition, and people hoping this would be the movie to take the bad taste of BvS out of their mouths.

It didn't.

reply

Movies that spend two months in the top ten can't relly be considered just frontloaded...

Ouch!

reply

Cool...And?
Were there also pools for all the Marvel movies SS passed? Was there a pool for when SS passed GotG's number that didn't include China? Is this really news that should make people feel giddy enough to post a bunch of laughing emoticons? I mean, after all, this news means absolutely nothing as far as SS's success.

Plan?...There ain't no plan!!

reply

SS would have done very small #'s in China.

And it would have definitely sold fewer tickets worldwide, even with a Chinese release.

I mean, GOTG surpassed it in number of tickets sold domestiically weeks ago.

For SS to have fallen behind, after being so far ahead (over FORTY SIX MILLION DOLLARS ahead), means that it's not a very good movie. Its very minor success was based on hype and name recognition, not how good a movie it is.

Two words--Front. Loaded.

GotG would have done small numbers in China? You probably meant SS and it would not have had to do big numbers to beat GotG. So, 'legs' for a movie shows whether it is good or not? You do know that most superhero movies do not have 'legs' like GotG. In fact, Civil War had worse 'legs' than MoS and SS.
Plan?...There ain't no plan!!

reply

Yep, that's what I meant. You're right about that. Mental glitch.

Wrong about everything else, though. 

reply

To lose such a lead, which at one point was almost $50m, shows just how bad the movie was to the majority of the general audience.

reply

If every movie of this type was compared to GotG then the majority would be bad. GotG had better 'legs' than Civil War and Ultron. Even then, GotG didn't have what is considered to be great 'legs'.

Why is it when someone compares SS to one movie, DC turds like you try to bring up other movies? Guardians of the Galaxy is the best comparison for Suicide Squad. Why? Both are early August releases, cbms, team up of misfits/villains to save a bunch of people, pop songs, etc. And yes GotG had great legs at 3.5x OW which is better than Jurassic World, Avengers, The Dark Knight and just below Star Wars 7.

Cause it shows how ridiculous the standards your trying to hold it to, by pointing out that other movies don't measure up to them.

reply

There's nothing ridiculous about expecting a movie that was hugely anticipated, that had Batman and The Joker and Ben Affleck and Wlll Smith, and super-expensive promotion, and very little real competition for most of its run, to do better than this movie has. A LOT better.

Bad reviews, bad audience reaction, bad movie.

Period.

Proof?

reply

Same place you find your proof that it would have outgrossed GOTG if it had opened there.

The Chinese are funny about movies with supernatural elements to them. The things that made SS do as well as it did wouldn't mainly have been operative there.

If you can say it would have been a hit there, I can say--with actual arguments to back me up--that it would have flopped, and ended up costing WB more than their very small share of the box office. Meaning it would have been a LESS profitable film for them if they'd opened it there.

reply

I've never said that it would so again, where's your proof that it would have done small numbers in China?

reply

Are you still here?

There are other threads for you to whine on, you know.

And don't expect me to be able to remember which of you whined about what.

reply

So you don't have proof? How shocking.

reply

Suicide squad played in more theatres , china is irrelevant as SS squad wasn't released there and could of made peanuts. At the end of the day it failed to beat GOTG, and may I add GOTG was a superior film.

A lead that it could not hold.

So to recap its stayed strong for two months, when you were declaring it would fail after two weeks.

The fact its finally slowing down now, proves its a failure because?

reply

It did not stay strong for two months.

It started falling behind after ten days.

Sure, tell yourself anything you need to hear.

Fanboy Translation: I care a $hit about true and pure facts, I just believe whatever my crazy and deluded head produce. I ignore facts and believe in crappy movies.

Wow clyons, this thread has the butthurt fanboys running around like headless cockroaches.

reply

Sure that is an accurate translation.

But please, someone show me these "facts" you boast so highly about.

Someone show me a source about how the marketing and reshoot budget was unrealistically high.

Someone show me a source where it proves this movie actually lost money.

Someone show me the fact that demonstrates that this movie is a failure.

Please, I'll be waiting till you find it.

Wow! You do cry like a little whiny girl.

The fact is, my butthurt friend, that neither I nor the OP nor the person you directly responded your original bitching rant mentioned the marketing and reshoots, that the movie lost money or that the movie is a failure. Not in this thread. So before you keep with your stupid rant, let's see what you answered:

YOU: So to recap its stayed strong for two months, when you were declaring it would fail after two weeks.

clyon:

When Clyon proved you wrong with facts, this was your deluded answer:
Sure, tell yourself anything you need to hear.

And now you want me to bring facts of things we haven't argued here. Why? Because you need to feel better about your desperation. Classic butthurt DC Fanboy tactic: diverting.

Please, I'll be waiting till you find it.

Sure, I will look for facts to prove you wrong in something tha wasn't even addressed in your original argument. Stop being an imbecile and fight your battles like a man, not diverting the topic.

I know, I was talking in general.

I don't care if they weren't brought up in this particular thread. There the same arguments others like him and him have been trying to make since it became clear this film was actually succeeding.

In the end it all comes down to the same thing really. A lot boasts about all the facts they have for there side, yet when I ask to see them no one is happy to share.

When Clyon proved you wrong with facts,

He never did though. He just showed me a website the said that this film didn't have the same take after its first week.

Everyone knows that. Most films honestly don't. No one claimed it did.

It doesn't dispute my point about how well this film has been doing for the last two months.

It doesn't explain why this film is suddenly a failure.

If he has a fact that proves that, if he has a source that shows that, if he or you for that matter have anything other than your own word for it. Please show me, and I'll agree with you.

Till then, I'm still waiting.

And now you want me to bring facts of things we haven't argued here. Why? Because you need to feel better about your desperation. Classic butthurt DC Fanboy tactic: diverting.

And tell me what is all this accusing and name calling?

Classic troll tactic: trying to scare people away cause you don't want to get challenged.

reply

Really, you come to a thread about a specific topic and when you are cornered you feel like bringing all the other arguments between haters and fanboys. Mostly all people talking in this thread mantained the argument about the particular matter of the OP, but you believed it was best generalize, hmmmm......

He never did though. He just showed me a website the said that this film didn't have the same take after its first week.

No, he showed you THE SITE, with the real, factual, non-imaginary numbers that prove what he postulated in his OP. Also, the numbers that proved you assertions were wrong regarding to GotG which was the topic in this thread.

It doesn't dispute my point about how well this film has been doing for the last two months.

It doesn't explain why this film is suddenly a failure.

Yes the movie is not a failure financially, that's clear. However, this is for another thread. In fact there are lots of these kind of threads on how this movie is doing better against movies made 8 years ago, without the help of 3D, IMAX and a smaller International Market. Again, this discussion does not belong here.

And tell me what is all this accusing and name calling?

Classic troll tactic: trying to scare people away cause you don't want to get challenged.

If I wanted to scare you, as you mentioned, I will have started sooner. While the name calling was somewhat a little off board, it really started only when you showed your diverting tactics.

reply

Well in that case your right.

It seems I have gone off topic.

Still when there are so many treads like this, that quickly degrade into similar accusations and implausible claims, I feel a some confusion isn't unexplainable.

Now I'm not disputing that this film has fallen behind Guardians of the Galaxy. I never did.

My original point was, why is that after two months, it doing so is a sign that its a failure?

To which all I got was a page showing this film had made less money on the weeks afterwards than it did initially. Which I already knew, and didn't see as relevant.

So I dismissed it.

Then I got accused of being an obsessed fanboy, and I'll admit I probably didn't react the best to that.

Sorry if I've taken this off topic, if I did its cause I forgot what the topic of this post actually was.

But I still stand by my original statement. Namely why does it falling behind two months afterwards mean its suddenly a failure?

reply

But I still stand by my original statement. Namely why does it falling behind two months afterwards mean its suddenly a failure?

To let this argument Rest in Peace, I will agree with you: The movie is not a financial failure. In fact it did better than even some fanboys expected. Again, that's not the point of this thread.

reply

Well in that case I've clearly missed the point of this thread from the start.

And withdraw any irrelevant previous statements.

I'm glad this could end civilly.

reply

Suicide squad was released in more theatres aswell , well done GOTG , just goes to show how good that film was and how better it was than SS

reply

So...by that logic, SS must be better than all the Marvel movies it passed.

Plan?...There ain't no plan!!

reply

No SS was crap, how it made all that money is beyond me , Incredible Hulk was a btter film tha SS

reply

Well, at least you admit that it made a lot of money...That's progress.

Plan?...There ain't no plan!!

reply

only because DCEU has been so disappointing, think that's why everyone is surprised.
