Are Marvel and DC still making good comics?

For those of you who are in to comics, have you been reading much new stuff? I haven't touched any new DC comics for a while and am only reading a few Marvel series.

I'm enjoying Moon Knight and Doctor Strange, and Vision is absolutely fantastic (can't wait for the conclusion) but aside from that I've got nothing. I really disliked what I've seen of Civil War II so far.

As for DC I just haven't gotten in to it. Any really good ongoing series'?

No. 90% of the comics produced today are trash. They are little more than fan fiction written by talentless hacks. At best they are comparable to the recent spate of lousy Hollywood remakes.

WE GOT MOVIE SIIIIIGN!

What's the other 10%?

I've mainly been reading Superman, Superman and Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman.
Also certain spin offs and some "Convergence".

Overall it has been utter crap with only the Superman Doomed story really sticking out as interesting.

Marvel Just looks ridiculous to me as I am a big Spiderman and Hulk fan and drop Spiderman after that ridiculous deal with Mephisto (The Amazing Spider-Man #544) and Hulk after his Story was concluded with leaving with Red She-Hulk (The Incredible Hulks #635)

All the new stuff (gay Iceman, female Thor & female Iron Man) all seems forced and stupid, which really and truly instead of messing with already established characters, they could have just introduced new characters to fit whatever pc agenda.

They obviously didn't learn from DC's mistake with having the gay females introduced through Bat woman and the question and the make over of Harley Quinn which bombed horribly.

One More Day is one of the worst comics I've ever read, so I'm with you on that. Didn't know they made Iceman gay. Is that like a Colossus situation or did they change the 616 version?

reply

Oh lord it was the most stupidest thing I have read.

Bobby is brought back from the past... That's right THE PAST, so essentially it is the very same bobby drake we all know and suddenly when talking to Jean.

I think "forced" is a pretty good word to describe that. I wonder why they chose to do that rather than making the existing gay characters more prominent.

reply

Yeah or even make new "hip" gay characters to appeal to the new young pc audience?

Forcing characters to be gay, the opposite sex or another skin colour is just unnecessary as the previous formula obviously worked fine so why mess with it to such an extreme?

Crossovers, events and reboots killed DC and Marvel comics for me.

reply

That's more or less what happened to me.

I don't know what these people are saying. The Batman new 52 run was absolutely fantastic. Rebirth Green Arrow is awesome. Forever Evil was great. I could go ona for quite a while. Of course some series are trash. But that is because they have so many. Just pick out the good ones. They are there for sure.

reply

I don't know about Green Arrow and Forever Evil, but Batman turned me off. The only story I liked was set pre N52 and that was Hush.

The N52 redesign of Harley and Joker (or his face) was off putting for me. And then reading Batman Inc and seeing Talia condone Damian's death just made me drop it, as it seemed to be that DC was doing knee jerk storylines and trying to be "edgy" with it's designs just to try satisfy the new generation.

Injustice: Gods among us was interesting but overall depressing. Could never make a movie out of it, that's for sure lol.
