A surrealistic prequel to Falling Down....

Orson is definitely more unhinged than Bill, but you could almost make an argument that this film is like a prequel to Falling Down.

A guy suffering neurosis in a society designed to keep you in line, keep you down, and keep you unhappy.

This felt very Kafka-esque in its depiction, with the cold, sterile office setting and askew, uncomfortable angles.

One of the things that really hit home was just how disconcerted people became at the notion that someone behaved peculiar but were efficient at what they did. If I had a guy who worked for me that stood in front of a wall for inordinate amounts of time but was highly efficient with his workload, I wouldn't stop to look the gift horse in the mouth, I would just accept that whatever he's doing -- so long as no one else was being harmed or inconvenienced in the process -- was working, and was helping the company.

The real bizarre twist here isn't what Orson needed to do to get work done, but the fact that people became antagonistic at the idea that his unorthodox methods of getting work done worked. Sadly, this is par the course even for a lot of real life companies.

This is definitely not a movie for everyone, but the unsettling minimalism and narration from Hamm really helped bring this quirky picture to life.
