Chaos reigns
Pier Paolo Pasolini's SALO (The 120 Days of Sodom).
DOGTOOTH seemed to me almost like a very simplified version of SALO. A very pared-down allegorical exercise on the human condition, the abuse & manipulation of the system, etc. SALO already had brilliantly covered the same subjects more than 40 years ago. Even the "people acting like dogs" scene & the passivity of the family reminded me of it. But SALO is way out there, cannot be surpassed.
I'm not slamming DOGTOOTH. These are eternal themes. Pasolini set his Sade adaptation during fascist era Italy. The director of DOGTOOTH comes from a country that also had during a time a fascist system.
I haven't seen the first on your list but I agree with the other two. Also, Fargo, Barton Fink, Serial Mom, Death of Mr. Lazarescu, Brazil, Dr. Strangelove, The Truman Show, American Psycho, Life is Beautiful, American Beauty, Fight Club, Dog Day Afternoon, Harold and Maude, Savages, Hospital.
No, this is not part of my post.
