By your standards every film should be in the fantasy genre. Even the most realistic movies based (BASED) on true events are partly fantasy. IT'S A MOVIE. Enjoy it or don't.
If you want realism go outside or watch a good documentary.

To me this movie did gave a eerie feeling of realism, like it could happen somewhere far away in an isolated place. And these things very much do happen in our real world. Think about all the weird sects where people honestly believe their "leader" is a God and will save them from the end of days.

But in the end this movie, to me, was just a story, a story about a messed up mental family.

You don't seem to understand the concept of satire, or absurdist and surreal humor. You think a film can only comment on family life by depicting a normal, traditional family? Not that that matters, since this isn't supposed to be a commentary on family life (except maybe to very small degree). This film is a satirical deconstruction and examination of human psychology, social conditioning, human behavior and interaction, and the ways in which someone learns about the world and the impressions that are formed through the nurture side of nurture/nature. This film is probing deeper into aspects of human nature, it's not supposed to be some ordinary family drama. The rest of your post is too self-indulgent, and misguidedly ignorant it hardly merits a response but, here goes anyway... Sick sick portrayals of human life? Maybe you should try being more open minded, there is a wide spectrum of human psychology and interaction, and viewing and reading about different forms of psychology, sexuality, society, and social arrangements, is a great way to expand your knowledge and perception of the various colors and textures of human nature but, maybe you'd prefer to keep your paradigm confined to your own limited perspective.

I would understand perfect if someone didn't enjoy this film but, your particular criticism is most definitely off the mark.
