Matt Smith

I feel like Matt Smith played as Doctor Who in the movie. He was just the same. Funny, great but same.

I don't think that at all. I thought he played Mr. Collins perfectly. Which is not like the Doctor at all.

Ditto!

It's kind of funny how often one reads comments like this on imdb, in which someone says an actor played a role exactly like the role they're best known for, or that an actor was "channeling" another actor's previous portrayal of the same character. Sometimes these observations are spot on, but in many cases, such as this one, I think the observation is way off.

I agree I really liked him as Mr. Collins.

It kinda is, though, at least I felt so. The awkwardness, the idiosyncrasies and quirky gestures, the moments of uber-low empathy and utter inability to understand the reactions of his peers, the thoroughly misplaced self-congratulatory behavior and constant lack of supposed subtlety - there were quite a few episodes of his Doctor being precisely like that. The Doctor cares more, of course, so in his case some of this falls into "cute" territory, while the rest are defects he has to cope with. But it's all there.

(and I loved The Eleventh to pieces, so I had no problem with Matt's Mr. Collins being similar to him)

Austen's creation to a t.

I didn't say that Matt's Mr. Collins was a bad ( = very different from the book) Mr. Collins, though. Also, Matt's Mr. Collins being very close to Austen's creation does not change the fact that Matt played him like he played his Doctor. It just means that the casting director did their job very well.
