Lily James miscast

Did anyone else find that she bore a striking resemblance to Headey? Fun as she was to look at, couldn't help but anticipate a plot twist in which the two vixens were revealed to be relations.

reply

I do not see the resemblance at all. Their noses are completely different and Lena has a longer face than Lilly has a round face.

reply

I thought she was a great Lizzy. Way better than KK.

Kim Kardashian was considered for Lizzy Bennet originally? Never meant to imply that Lily James was inept(she and her neckline were actually two of the movie's most appealing components) in the role, nonetheless the filmmakers dodged what was almost certainly a fatal bullet if KimYe's not necessarily better half was actually in the running at one point.

reply

Was that a joke?

KK = Keira Knightley, who played Elizabeth Bennet in Pride & Prejudice (2005).

reply

As far as Lily's portrayal I liked it. I can not compare Lily's performance to Kiera's because they are playing different roles. The Elizabeth from P&P is different than Elizabeth from PPZ.

Going in I was hesitant on Lily because I basically know her from "Downton Abbey" where her character would not be considered physically intimidating. I was unsure if Lily could sell the "action hero" of Elizabeth from PPZ and, in my opinion, she did very well.

reply

I agree. I didn't like Knightly as Lizzy.

reply

Agree! She was great in this, perfect casting as badass Lizzy.

So when you say she was miscast, is that based on anything besides her resemblance to Headey?

I thought she was great for the part.

Unsure if your responding to the OP itself or the following, T:

If the above, then yeah, believe I've clarified that James was nothing less than serviceable in the role. What were your thoughts on her resemblance to Headey, by the way? Thus far, the one response to this portion of my question has met with disagreement, and I remain curious as to how alone I might be on this one

reply

No resemblance to Headey. Lily has a narrower, more delicate jaw line, much more feminine, whereas Headey has a strong jaw and a wide jaw line. Headey would be classified as having a square face. Lily has an oval. I thought Lily was perfect for the part of Elizabeth, and could have done the part straight, in Pride and Prejudice. She was fine here too.

Not miscast, mis-directed, as in the whole cast. This was meant to be a funny, sorta funny horror comedy and no one in it seems to know how to handle any of the genres they are going for.

And if you guys are interested, have a review of this movie here- https://youtu.be/LPH2V1akF8c

Trying to go for an informative, and hopefully something people think is funny, youtube channel so hope you guys like. Thanks.

Bridget Jones's Necronomicon... I'm game for such an adaptation, with Olivia Taylor Dudley in the lead and getting bred to one of the The Shadow Over Innsmouth's denizens. Crafty thinking, Craig!!

reply

I don't think she was miscast but I also think the writers could've done a better job making her more like Lizzie Bennett than they did.

reply

I don't think she looks like Lena, and the only thing I'd say about their being a miscast is because she is gorgeous in this film. I mean I've seen Lily James in Downton Abbey and Cinderella, but didn't really take note of her. Honestly she is striking as a brunette in my opinion, and I really liked her as Lizzy, she was fun and came off as beautiful and scrappy. My only thing would be for Lizzy she might be too pretty, I mean when Darcy looked at her and said "she's tolerable but not enough to tempt me" line. I was thinking that felt ridiculous, and he'd have to have crazy standards to not think her pretty.

reply

Yes I found her far more striking and beautiful as a brunette as well.

Even though it's often said people look better going fairer rather than darker, she is someone who definitely looks better with darker hair. Which seems to be closer to her natural hair colour. With her big, thick eyebrows, blonde was never going to be her best look.

reply

I thought she did really well. That fight scene she had with darcy was magnificent. I rewatched that scene twice more before i let the film play on to the end. 

reply

It’s possible he does have crazy high standards in the original. Most people do think she’s very pretty.

reply

Well Bingley even says "Tolerable? Darcy, your standards my fellow...." or something like this in this scene.

Anyway, it's a famous quote from P&P original story and everyone pretty much waits for it, I know I did, ha ;). Inthis version it seemed Darcy just was in his genrel moody mood - I - do - not -like -to -be -social .

To the OP post: I do not think she was miscast, I really loved her. Maybe they did "glam" her a bit more up than the rest of the girls to stand out more, don't know.

reply

Yeah I mean I definitely was waiting for that line but I think she was beautiful in that first dance so it was hard for me to see anyone taking one glance and writing her off, haha. I mean I know she's a noted beauty in her town. Darcy's line of "her a beauty, I'd sooner call her mother a wit." was at least taken out because it would have just been a bit much.

Not sure I guess you know compared to Jane they are both beautiful not like Jane being the prettier of the two upon first glance sort of deal. But another issue I had with the film is Darcy spouting all that stuff about her eyes and her figure during the first time he saw her fight. Seemed way too soon, I would have rather he just give some more broody stares, that we could swoon over. They didn't let that whole Darcy being a big stick in the mud carry for a while before he kind of notes and falls for Elizabeth, but again they didn't get a 6hr time frame so I guess that's why.

Just an FYI -- Darcy never actually says that line in the book. Caroline Bingley says he said it.
