My god this is a disgrace! I feel sorry for Jane Austen and Sam Riley...

Jane Austen would roll in her grave if she found out that her best classic work was turned into a ridiculous parody popcorn zombie movie in the 21st century! Zombie movies are ridiculous enough on their own. Couldn't they ruin another story with zombies? This is a disgrace and disrespectful to the author of the original Pride and Prejudice. Please leave classics alone!

I also feel sorry for Sam Riley because he's starred in some unfortunate roles lately, below his talent. Angelina Jolie's pet in Maleficent, then parody Darcy in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies , some shady German roles. I want to see him back again as lead in great dramas and thrillers, because he's proven that he can carry a whole film by himself. His last good film was Suite Française (2014) (Das finstere Tal (2014) was great, too!). It's been 3 years since he starred in a decent film, according to his calibre. Please do something better, Sam!

She wrote a lot of parody herself I think she would be amused and probably pleased that her book is still so popular after 200 years that someone would make a parody out of it.

My thoughts exactly. I don't think she ever imagined that her work would still be read - and loved - 200 years after her death.

I feel sorry that he was cast in the role. His Darcy didn't quite do it for me... and that voice -- like nails on a chalkboard.

Sam Riley might not be classic Darcy material, but his voice is attractive to some. I, for one, believe his raspy voice is part of his charm, something particular about him. Most people are shocked (in a good way) by his normal, speaking voice in interviews, which he is trying to conceal in movies by speaking really low or slowly. Only coupled with a Yorkshire English accent does his voice sound attractive. I mean, John Hurt got away with his high-pitched raspy voice pretty fine for almost 50 years!

It's not the raspy part that bothers me, it's the high-pitch whiney quality. He sounds like an emo boy. 😃

Jane Austen would be more likely to approve of and enjoy laughing at the great in-jokes included in this film (and the book version, which came first). She wrote a fair amount of parody herself. 😄
