Carpenter still has it in my opinion.

In my opinion i think john carpenter did a fine job with directing this movie. Its just the script he had to work with is not very good. Its full of cliche's and that awful ending (if only they had cut the last few seconds it would have not been that bad.) The movie has that distinctive carpenter feel, and i think that he is still a good director, But he should go back to writing his own movies.

recycled plot twist killed it. I knew it was this type of movie 20 minutes into the film.

still entertaining with all the hotties.

I know! I think there are some excellent directors who's not good at choosing the best scripts. Another one would be Ridley Scott.

If Carpenter wasn't so lazy, he'd have found ways to avoid the cliches & jump scares. After all, he does brag about being "The Master of Horror."

The sickest thing I think is he damn well knew he had a lot of fans really wanting him to make a new film, but he couldn't have been bothered to make an effort. He disgusts me.

Carpenter said in the audio-commentary, that he's "Getting old" That's why he didn't do the soundtrack to the film. And it's probably why he retired. He's not even that old. I guess he was tired with the producers always changing around his stories and so he quit the business...or simply lost motivation.
