One of the best films of the year!

Just finished watching the Oscar nominated film, Women Talking. Masterfully directed by Sarah Polley, the film has a wonderful ensemble cast including Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, Frances MacDormand, and Ben Whishaw. This is a very well written and intelligent film, compelling and thought provoking. The performances are fantastic by the entire cast. This film deserved more Oscar nominations than just the two it got and should have been nominated for best director and at least one of the actors, if not more, should have been nominated. My rating is a 9/10. For me, this is the second best film of last year. Highly recommended.

I just finished it. Powerful, thought provoking film. The best ensamble piece of 2022

I just finished watching the film. I found it to be bizarrely trite, predictable and badly executed on a variety of levels. I will say there were a few microscopic glimpses of something deep occurring only to be sucked away by more meaningless, repetitive and unnecessary dialogue again. With all the Oscar hype and “intellectual” buzz around this film I was expecting something thought provoking or moving. It was pathetic! Actually LAUGHABLE! It’s over inflated sense of importance and pretentiousness made me sick. The list at the end… hahahaha Women need stars and straw and wind and numbers and buckets and ….. wtf ?!??!! That was so sick for me. Really? This is intelligent writing?

I completely agree.

Yeah it wasn't bad, but it wasn't great. Certainly better than anything I could put together. I had a hard time believing that the group of women depicted here would be so well spoken and able to achieve everything they did considering their lack of education and isolation from so many aspects of the world.

(Don’t read this if you haven’t watched yet- Spoiler alerts!!!) I was wondering - how was it possible for all of them to gather so freely that morning with absolutely no men coming out to even see what was happening? It was like a 5 mile long caravan of women and children and not a man in sight. Even to just witness what was happening. How was that even possible?

Weren't all the men out of town posting bail for the rapists except for the one drunk guy who was passed out at home?

reply

Every single man of the entire village except the one drunk guy? That’s a lot of men to go post bail isn’t it?!? Why were they hiding their meetings then? Just from the one drunk man?

reply

It's the only way I can imagine a hundred or so women and children could wake, pack up, and leave without a single man noticing. The men weren't there.

I agree. I've seen it twice. Excellent film.
