Does Bruce Willis always have to be a *beep* CIA agent?

Jesus *beep* Christ, why does Bruce Willis always have to be a *beep* CIA agent nowadays?

reply

He doesn't play the same character in every movie. There was that one movie where he didn't play a cop, hitman, or government agent. It was called Ocean's 12 or something like that. He played this character named Bruce Willis. Very dramatic role. It was a big stretch and really showed his range as an actor.

reply

He was a CEO in the Kid. I think that's what it was called..

reply

he also played a dead guy in sixth sense.

spoiler btw.

:D

Belief in a supernatural source of evil is unnecessary -We alone are capable of every wickedness

"He looks and acts the same in every movie too. I think at some point in their career, actors can stop acting and just ride the gravy train with as little effort allowed."

Robert De Niro says hi.

He's an action star, so he's always gonna play a secret agent, cop, soldier or mobster. It's called typecasting and it happens with dozens of A-list actors. Just get along with it and enjoy his films. Maybe not Oscar worthy but good enough to have a freakin' good time.

"That was a courtesy flush. I'm not actually done yet"

reply

duhh OP what do you expect him to be? a consultant lol

Kill them all, Let God sort em out

sixth sense, unbreakable, armageddon, possibly fifth element counts, the whole nine yards, the whole 10 yards, the kid, he's also in Moonrise Kingdom as a camp counselor i believe. Just a few that come to mind.

reply

Yeah, just, did you catch the word 'nowadays' at the end of my sentence? All the movies you've listed are from more than a decade ago. Except The Whole 10 Yards where he plays a hitman, so he's still an assassin, just not a government-sanctioned one. And in the fifth element he was ex-special forces. As someone mentioned he plays a cop, a criminal or a CIA agent in pretty much all of his recent movies. I was maybe a little too specific, but i was just making a point.

Bruce Willis reminds me of Scarlett Johansson in a way. She's just coasting. Does not put effort into anything these days, just look at her movies lately - Iron Man # and #, Avengers, He's Just Not That Into You, The Spirit, We Bought a Zoo. I get wanting to take it easy and enjoy the high-life but for *beep* sake... She just shows up, they put make up on her, someone points the cameras at her and... well that's pretty much it.

Bruce Willis shows up, they give him a fake gun, there's a bad guy nearby, Bruce points the gun at him and says 'bang'. As long as he's packing heat (always wanted to use this expression) his character doesn't even need a back-story. The audience can just fill in the blanks.

I find it very hard to believe that a star of his caliber cannot find diversity in his work. I get that there's a typecasting problem but if he really wanted to he could opt to do something creative and fresh. It's probably easier to just keep cashing the checks though.

these are action films-what acting?? you are just supposed to act tough and either dont speak or maybe mumble a few words.
as for diversity-he is going to be in this movie Looper-and the early word is that he is pretty amazing in it...

reply

Yeah I mean I don't see anyone complaining about Morgan Freeman constantly being cast as an older intellectual mentor to the main character in every movie he does. Simply put because he's extremely effective at it. Of course certain actors are typecasted, but in a way it's a compliment. Just because they don't have range doesn't make them bad at what they do, it just limits their potential as a complete actor. If someone else were to come along better than bruce willis I'm sure a serious director would cast them instead.

reply

I did not know Moonrise Kingdom was more than a decade old!

Drop it like it's legal precedent!

reply

Judging by the trailers he plays a deputy in that movie anyway so it doesn't help the counter-argument...

reply

No it does help the counter-argument immensely. Yes he plays a deputy, but it's a much different role than most of his stuff. I really liked his role in the movie, probably my favorite after the two amazingly talented child leads.

reply

Actually, he does. It's a sickness. You shouldn't joke about that...

reply

what just happened, perfect stranger, catch .44.... not an agent nor a cop.
