why did freddie favour little jimmy over his other kids

It was because he believed the boy was his child..He was attracted to Maggie the whole time and wished to be with her instead of Jackie.

I think he said it was because he was so little and innocent. He was a nice polite child, compared to the ones he had already. As maggie raised the kid he thought the child had turned out the best??

Maybe because Freddie saw Little Jimmy as untainted by him, and therefore good. Freddie must have been well aware of how toxic he was, and the damage that he had done to his own family.

Perhaps Freddie always believed that everything he did and everything that he touched would turn out bad, and Little Jimmy disproved that and gave him hope.
