A multitude of reasons. That would probably she was in denial and chose to black this out shutting down, until she started to show. Also there are many cases of women having children born out of rape, research the internet there are stories. also there is no telling wether or not it is indeed Freddie's baby at all she has been frequently trying with Jimmy. She may live in hope, Jimmy desparately wants a baby.

It is possible that the morning after pill wasn't around then. But otherwise, if it was, I think she subconsciously knew it could get her pregnant and give her husband what he always wanted. Which is why she hates Freddie even more, because not only did he rape her but he also made her lie to her husband and have a horrible secret. In a way she was also slightly glad he did rape her 'cos it gave her a baby and thats the part of herself she hates, and she hates Freddie for making her like that. No-one's perfect!
shareI don't know what the date was in that episode, but the morning after pill wasn't available until late 85 (i think) in the UK.And then it was only through GP's, i think it wasn't until 1997 it was made available over the counter.
But i have been known to be wrong.
In the book maggies niece (I think rox) works out that maggie is pregnant and tells everyone so maggie has no choice to tell jimmy. Also her and jimmy made love before he went away so it could have been either of them that was the biological dad to little jimmy. As for the morning after pill I think mags was in too much of a state after her assault that the thought never crossed her mind.

I think like others have said, when she realised she was pregnant she kept the child because Jimmy wanted one so much and there was probably a part of her that hoped/believed it could have been Jimmy's baby.
I was surprised she didn't report the rape, Maggie seemed a very strong character and I'd have expected her not to let Freddie get away with it. At least she got her revenge 6 years later.
Well in the book it mentioned that because Maggie was Catholic she wouldn't have an abortion so perhaps she viewed the morning after pill in a similar light.
Frankly I found the whole 'can't have an abortion cos every sperm is sacred' ludicrous. They lived off the proceeds of prostitution, drugs and extortion. Why bother dragging out a conscience over one abortion?
