I don't think he was even capable of love, he certainly didn't love Maggie - she was just unattainable and so he wanted her.
In the book he kind of loved Patricia (Ozzie's sister) but even that was a twisted love that ended in her becoming bitter and betraying her brother.
As for his wife, they have completely twisted relationship where they are almost addicted to each other, they hate each other but they are addicted to the relationship.
