Oh. My. God. Question! *Spoilers*

Ok, how effing INCREDIBLE is Tom Hardy?! Seriously, where did this guy come from?! In the past few months, I've seen him in almost everything he's done and the whole time I'm thinking, 'how is this guy ever gonna top himself after this?' And lo and behold, I see him in this show and... there are no words lol

But anyways, I just have two quick questions about something me and a friend have been debating on. Did Freddie, in his own sick and twisted way, actually love Maggie? I mean, he sure loved little Jimmy and at Jimmy and Maggie's wedding he seemed genuinely... disturbed. Like it physically hurt him to see Maggie with Jimmy. Or maybe it was because he had just found out Jimmy was going behind his back on the whole drug deal... I don't know! At times it seemed like he just wanted to possess her because he knew he couldn't but then there would be these few moments of weakness where he would just look at Maggie and you could tell that a storm was raging inside of him.

And why did Maggie ask for Freddie when she was in the hospital? When she is in the hospital after finding out little Jimmy died, her mom and sister are trying to comfort her and she asks for Freddie... Uhhh why? I thought she hated him? Was it just an accidental slip up of her acknowledging that Freddie was the father or did she blame him or did she want him at that moment with her? lol Sorry, I'm just curious about what you guys think!

Well, hello. Man, let's talk. I'm in the same boat, I am a recent fan and yes, Tom Hardy is blowing my mind. I saw Bronson and Stuart within a few days of each other and I think this guy is capable of anything--no limit. I just finished The Take the other day and he is firmly brilliant. His eyes do more work than most actors can manage with their whole bodies their whole careers. I agree with one critic who said that he became more brilliant in the latter 2 episodes--how'd he pull off what he did there?

Okay, sorry, I'm excited over his performance too. To get to your questions, I don't know if he loved Maggie genuinely. He did act like it sometimes, but the obvious answer is that no one can rape someone that they truly love--and he was so cruel to her--and of course, rape is about power and control. But in his twisted Freddie way, he seemed to value her over nearly anyone else, I think mainly because he knew she was the kind of woman that he could never get or deserve.

In the hospital, if I'm remembering correctly, I think she asked if Freddie knew of little Jimmy's death--which she did because she knew it was his son. She was essentially asking if the father had been notified.

EDIT: I thought I recognized your user name--from the Joaquin board! Shame he's retired, imagine him and Hardy squaring off. I think the set would implode form intensity.

Oh man, I know what you mean! He has become my new favourite actor but it's been building up for a while. I first saw him in Wurthering Heights as Heathcliff (another AMAZING performance) and instantly took a liking to him. I tried to keep my eye out for him but there are so many actors I love and it's hard to keep track sometimes lol And then I watched Bronson because I heard it was really good... and was completely blown away by the main actor. I wasn't aware it was Tom Hardy until I went on IMDB and I swear, I literally screamed 'THAT WAS TOM HARDY?!' Haha and since then, full blown love affair lol When Inception came out, all I kept talking about was Tom and not how great the movie was. His intensity and raw, pure talent is pretty overwhelming;)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on Freddie and Maggie's situation. I was never really comfortable saying that Freddie loved Maggie, because he was so cruel towards her and obviously for the fact that he rapes her. It was mostly about control and power. But I also agree with your view that Freddie wanted Maggie and that he probably valued her above everyone else. All in all, as despicable and horrible Freddie is, he is still fascinating. At least to me lol But I think that has more to do with Tom Hardy:P

That situation at the hospital involving Maggie felt pretty ambiguous to me. It's like she tried so hard to never acknowledge that Freddie was the father but finally had to admit it when they lose their child. Even before her breakdown, when Freddie first arrives at the hospital, she gives him this look... The fact that she even cared enough to acknowledge him, let alone look at him, was pretty interesting to me.

Haha and yes, I have occasionally stopped by the Joaquin board. He is and will remain one of my favourite actors, despite all the crazyness he has unleashed lol. But you know, because of just how insane his whole situation has been... I think I love him more now. I mean, it's been interesting! Never a dull moment lol I can't wait for I'm Still Here. If nothing else, I will just be able to laught my ass off. Tom and Joaquin working together would be EPIC.

I've known about him for a few years but watching him in Bronson reignited my absolute LOVE for him. I'm trying to watch everything I've seen him in, or seen him in but didn't realize it was him so I can try and satisfy my craving of Tom.

Anyways, even though he's a freaking psychopath in the series, I felt bad for him at times...I think its cause I'm a huge fan of the actor. In terms of Maggie, I don't think Freddie loved her because you wouldn't rape and harass somebody you loved. While he was raping her, he spit in her face and then mocked her and her husband afterward. He was a twisted son of a b*tch so there's no real understanding of the character, but I think he cared for her, as much as he could anyway. Another part of him liked to torment her, like he did to everybody else but his mother.

I also thought it was odd that she asked for him at the hospital but then again it is just a story and the sister did have to have some reason to become more suspicious. I thought she dealt out perfect vengeance along with her sister in the end. I didn't think Maggie would be the one to do it but she did and I (being a female myself) thought it was pretty badass that the 2 females took care of business.

It's funny, I didn't even think twice about the hospital scene, it does seem to be there to arise suspicion in Jackie, but it also shows that Maggie does acknowledge Freddie as the father in that moment as well--the rest of the series she doesn't even want to think about it (understandably), so it feels like an important step. It seems like she knows he'll be devestated but later on wants to hear none of his grief either.

I was surprised by how convincing Hardy is in this, he is so vile and perversely, it does make fascinating viewing. I agree with both of you there, he was mesmerizing, one of those actors you really don't want to look away from from fear of missing a moment.

If he genuinely loved Maggie he sure did have an awesome way of showing it. Raping her and then spitting in her face after, man that is love.

I just assumed she meant little Freddie.

reply

Yes I too assumed she was asking if Little Freddy knew about the death of his little cousin.

reply

I agree.. I positively think she meant "Little" Freddie. I thought it was obvious.

I thought it was obvious that he hated Maggie and just wanted to torment her and Jimmy. And I assumed at the hospital she was referring to Freddie Jr. If she was talking about Freddie, then she was probably worried he would've spilt the beans.

But why didn't Maggie just kill Freddie at the Wedding reception?I mean,Freddie was sitting at a table alone, after dancing with Jimmy she could have pulled out a gun and shot him in the head.

Now THAT'S entertainment!!!
