Why did Freddy rape Jimmy's wife in the second episode?And why didn't Maggie just tell Jimmy?And how the hell did Freddie get into their house?

2) Freddie tells her Jimmy doesn't like 'used toys', meaning Jimmy probably wouldn't want her if he ever found out about the rape.

1. Rape is all about control, he couldn't have her so he just took her. I think he was also jelous of what Jimmy had with Maggie.
2. It would have blown their whole world apart. In the book one of the main reasons she didn't tell anyone was Jackie. She knew Jackie would never believe/admit that Freddie would rape Maggie, Jackie would blame it all on Maggie, and as the last post said, she was worried it would affect her relationship with Jimmy.
3. He either broke in or maybe he had a key. He could have got a key from maggie and jackies mum and dad, they were all family and familes tend to have spare keys to their houses for various reasons.
She didn't seem to fight him much.And I didn't hear any screaming or cries for help.

People react to fear in different ways. Some people are unable to make a sound through shear fear alone.
It explains in the book that she knew there was no point screaming as where they lived (in such a big house, with vast grounds) no-one would hear her anyway. She also thought that if she didn't fight him he would get bored and leave her alone. With rape, the more you fight it the more of a kick the rapist gets out of it and may prolong the ordeal.
I thought she struggled a great deal, but she was in an utterly defenseless postition (in the tub) and he dragged her out by the hair and threw her around like a rag doll---that anyone could think that isn't "fighting back" enough, is frightening.
I think it was hugely clear that she was terrified and helpless, you felt that as a viewer.

It was a crucial part of the storyline i thought, the fact that Freddie could have been little jimmys dad, therefore i don't think they could have taken the rape scene out.

Not sure it needs to be said at this point, but for anyone who hasn't seen the last two episodes, SPOILERS---------
^That Maggie and Freddie would have had an affair is highly unlikely, it's an ugly scene for sure, as it she should be, but that he rapes her has huge implications for the rest of the show. Firstly, you know something awful is going to happen from how Freddie is unraveling (he thinks Jimmy is going behind his back, Ozzy is favoring Jimmy, etc) so he's going to take it out on Maggie, and feel like he's got something over on Jimmy. In the book, it's clear that Maggie knows that he knows that she'll never tell anyone, and of course, her getting pregnant has all sorts of ramifications. Freddie favors that son which leads to the murder of the other child, it is over the secret of the attack that leads Maggie to kill Freddie (to keep him from telling Jimmy)--I understand this is different in the book, however.
A lot of the drama in the last two episodes (if not most of it) results from the attack.

I never actually SAW him rape her.He grabs her hair and pulls her into the room.Then we see the phone ring and Jimmy leaves Maggie a message.Then we see Freddie kissing Maggie's breasts."Jimmy's going to kill you." she tells him.
And that's the entire scene.And I wish Jimmy DID kill him!!!
Of course if this show had been more realistic Freddie would have been killed shortly after shooting that guy at the Ecstasy deal.I mean,I doubt that Turkish drug dealers would tolerate one of their guys getting shot by the people they're doing business with!!!

Maybe it's only on the actual DVD because I brought it and the scene was actually on there. Quite brutal, too. He also spat in her face while doing it. It was horrible.

Well,I think the whole thing was stupid.I mean the way it happens doesn't make sense.He had no way of knowing that she was ACTUALLY there in the apartment.Plus,he would never had made it that far.
Turkish drug dealers aren't very tolerant,and him shooting one of their men at a business deal wouldn't be tolerated.
So,this is what WOULD have happened IF this show was more realistic:
1.The drug dealers would have had Freddie killed the next day,that's what happens in my mind.
2.Jimmy wouldn't have had such a weak door at his place,he would have had a solid oak one with strong locks.So even if he HAD lived,he would never have been ABLE to break the door open.Of course he wouldn't have been able to since he's dead.
3.Jimmy's son would have been Jimmy's son.
4.Jackie would have met and married someone better.
5.Ozzie would have replaced Freddie with someone more sensible.

Dude,that's harsh.I'm just trying to be a little realistic here.Turkish people(especially criminals)tend to be very violent,and don't tolerate betrayal.And let's face it,if you shot a guy who works for Turkish drug dealers at a drug deal,you would be dead in five seconds.

ok Number 1) The person who wrote this knows even less?? ummmmmm Martina Cole grew up in the east end of London around the gangs and criminal underworld that she writes about...theres a reason her tag line is "the person who tells it like it is"
2) Exactly how is someone who is weaker and in a vulnerably position (and has no apparent self defence skils such as martial arts training) supposed to pull off such moves against someone who is stronger, caught her off guard and is probably off his head and thus won't feel pain - and you're the one calling for more believability? (Also how many people do you know that just leave guns lying around in bedside draws?)
3)In your earlier posts you mention how Freddie should be dead by now...the criminal gangworld is a LOT more protected than you give them credit for, Freddie and Jimmy are quite high status thus they would have been protected.
4)Jackie wouldn't have ended up with anyone better - if you read the book it explains her character a little better, she is completely wrapped up in Freddie and she block out all the bad stuff with heavy drinking and medication, so much so that when Freddie dies in the book she kills herself.
5)There is NO way Maggie and Freddie could have had an affair, she despises him too much, she wouldn't be out drinking with him alone and the rape is important because as the title suggests it's about Freddie "taking" what he wants, he takes Maggie and then gets sadistic pleasure off of tormenting her for the rest of his life (in the book he buys the bed where it happens off of Jimmy and is constantly making comments about what he gets up to in it)
6)Just read the book - it's a lot better than the series and explains all of this much better, it goes into a lot more detail about the criminal world, the deals, the codes and rules etc and you'll find most of your questions will be cleared up

who does like rape? lol but it is important to the storyline. It causes a path of destruction, Freddie "takes" something and as such it ruins Maggie's life, it causes his son to become a psycopath, it ruins Maggie's relationships with her sister and Jimmy, the whole book is about Freddie causing these patterns of events by taking what he wants.
