Why in the world would she have the child after she was raped by freddie. That makes no sense at ALL. I mean not only does she not do anything about the rape she decides to keep a child that will remind her of the incident over and over again and give freddie something to hold over her.

shareThis may sound a bit warped, but I also think it may have been because Jimmy couldn't give her a child (which I think was implied with their "trying" to no avail), and she wanted to keep him close to her, by making him think he spawned Jimmy Jr. The theme of not telling him about the rape for fear he'd leave her was pretty prevalent, so I kind of incorporate the fact that she might keep a kid to keep Jimmy around as well.
She certainly had issues with the kid, though - near the end of the show, I think even Jimmy realized that the kid wasn't her first priority, when he said something about how Jimmy Jr. always looked to her, but she couldn't return his love (or something along those lines).

I was actually thinking the same thing.Maggie would have had sex with Jimmy FIRST,so the child could have been his.

Btw, am I the only one that thinks it's hella weird they named the kids after their dads? It means that while Freddie and Jimmy Jr. are dead, Jimmy and Freddie Jr. are alive. Lol.
Well Freddie was on cocaine,so the kid would have been born with brain damage or some other disability.

Maybe she didn't agree with abortion--I wasn't paying close attention, but was the family catholic? The Church wedding seemed like it might be. Anyway, she also wanted a child, and probably knew her husband couldn't give her one. As for her 'not doing anything' about the rape, 80% of rapes go unreported (that's based on statistics from rape crisis centres, so goodness knows how many people don't even go to them). There was nothing at all unusual about Maggie's case, unfortunately. Happens every day.

At the end of the Movie it skips to five months later. Maggie is pregnant again and its very noticable.
so she was able to conceive with Jimmy.

And how about she felt something for Freddie. Just watch first episode when Freddie came home from jail. She fixed her eyes on Freddie. At some point I thought how she must be one of his lovers or something.
Raping wasn't something she had in her mind I guess. But we saw how Freddie isn't romantic kind of guy but I'm 100% sure if he gave her a few compliments and touched her face gently she would be all over him.
After the rape she realized Freddie doesn't take her any different than other girls plus she realized how crazy the guy really is.
She also kept the baby because she was afraid of Freddie. (now knowing how crazy he is). She didn't want Jimmy to find out cause he might confront Freddy and he might die in that confrontation. So my guess is she was protecting Jimmy!

I THINK I missed and episode.The first episode I saw began with them going to the Ecstasy deal.I saw white powder lying somewhere and thought "This can't be right,that looks like Cocaine.".
When Freddie pulled out his gun I thought that he was upset about getting screwed over.
I don't remember seeing him coming home from jail or Maggie having some feelings for him.After the episode there Lil' Jimmy was killed,I stopped watching.I had just had enough of this show,but I DID see Maggie kill Freddie which in my opinion was the best scene in the show.
