These four episodes were fantastic. It looked like there were some things left open for Season Two - except for one obvious plot change.

I think it was based on a book, and I assume the series ended where the book did.

I think it was just supposed to be a miniseries, but maybe the book was meant for a potential sequel?

All guesses on my part.
